“Little out of the action, but very friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

For those of you looking at the maps of Lille, don't be fooled by the fact that this place is close to Gare Perrache - this is not the main train station in and out of town, that honour goes to Gare Part Dieu. However, it's a short ride by taxi or tram to this Hotel.

And it's a lovely place to stop. Yes, it is a little out of the main city, but a 20 minute walk and you are there. The rooms are quite dark, as are the corridors, and yes the rooms are small, but they provide everything that you need. The staff are friendly and do try to make your stay better.

I'd recommend this for a decent budget option.

The Central Hotel is in a fab location as it's near one of the main train/tram stations that accesses the entire city, so it was easy to get around. The hotel was covered in scaffolding but this made no difference to us as we didn't book it for a nice view! We were given room 001 on the ground floor which I think is for wheelchair access and extra large, as we had a 2 year old and travel cot/pram etc. And it also had patio doors to a small courtyard area. It was ideal for us, and very soundproofed and warm.
It's quite contemporary, and the reception staff were very friendly.
It's also right next to Brasserie Georges, and absolute MUST when staying in Lyon.

The location is as in the name, it is in a very central location, being just two minutes walk from the Gare de Lyon-Perrache. It is handy for the very user-friendly metro service and just ten minutes walk from the Place Bellecour. The welcome from the staff was very warm and all spoke good English. WiFi is available free of charge for any phones/laptops and the breakfast was popular though I preferred to eat out. The rooms are cleanand well decorated, but are however, on the small side. The bed was very comfortable but only had a space of 50cm on all three sides. The bathroom was a wetroom and equipped with a very good shower. I would definitely consider staying here again.

Location is convenient, easy to catch metro, tram or train. Would not expect much from 2 stars, but Hotel Central surprised me: receptionists were speaking good english, rooms were clean and cleaned every day, wifi was free of charge, bed was extremely comfortable. Morning breakfast extra charge and is basic, but tasty, just the way i needed it to start my day. Just remember, that breakfast room is not the big one, so sometimes it might be full of people. One minus is that rooms are not air-conditioned so staying in the room during summer time might be a problem for some people. For me it was a big minus. I asked for a fan and managed well with it.

While I recently visited Lyon I stayed at the Hotel Central. Very clean, updated rooms. A bit small but i was in a single. The staff was very helpful-i was driving-thought i would have to park in one of the large lots for the train station nearby, but the staff fed the meter while i was out so I didn't have to. Breakfast was good. Location was great-especially if you travelled by train. EVen by car is was easy on and off the freeway.

We stayed just one night at the Hotel Central in Lyon. We booked online a double room at a rate of Eur 59. We had no problem finding it as it is just behind the Perrache station. The reception area was comprised of a seating area which is used for serving breakfast in the morning, or in fact lounging in during the remainder of the day - plus of course the reception desk. We checked in without problem and given the key to our room. Our room was on the first floor and we found it no problem. The room, while not the largest I have ever stayed in, was also not the smallest. The pictures on the website are an accurate reflection of reality. Ours was clean and tidy, and the bed fresh and relatively comfortable. There was a phone, flatscreen TV and hairdrier provided in the room. Bonus was also free WifI for which the codes were provided at check in. The sink bizarrely was in the room itself and not the shower room/WC. But I guess given the size of the room and layout, I guess this was technically the only solution. It didn't bother us. The adjoining shower room/WC was exactly that - a shower and a WC. Again, clean with fresh towels. The only gripes I would have are a) the shower - is not an enclosed unit with doors but rather has curtains instead. Unfortunately, this did lead to water spilling and splashing out onto the floor as the force of the water from the showerhead hitting the curtains would move them out over the edge of the shower, hence puddles on the floor; and b) the walls are relatively thin and you can hear what is going on above and beside you. We were naturally tired so it didn't bother us for too long and we slept through. The window in the room could be opened so we had fresh air, and there was an unopened bottle of water in the room which we are unsure as to whether it was left by the hotel as complementary or whether it was from a previous guest.
All in all, we had a relatively good night's stay. It is a budget hotel, and as such, maybe the quality of the fixtures, fittings, flooring etc. may not be high end. But they are perfectly adequate, and it is clean, tidy and has all that you need for a short stay. As said, we paid Euro 59 for the room. While our pocket did benefit from this, I do believe that what we paid was a little on the low side when measured against the good standard of accommodation and level of service this hotel provides. I would have expected to pay a bit more. As mentioned, an area in reception is used for serving breakfast in the mornings and while we opted not to have breakfast there, we noted other guests being very happy to avail of this service themselves. Additionally, if you have very early starts, there was a notice up in the elevator that said that breakfasts could be arranged accordingly if so wished.
Overall, a good stay, and after having stayed at the Ibis literally next door last time I was Lyon, if I were in Lyon again, I know I would use the Central Hotel again over the Ibis. Good value for money.
