“Grand Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

Great hotel with small but nicely decorated rooms. The beds are superb. This hotel is great for a business trip in combination with some leisure in the city center. This family operated hotel has an excellent service level. I would strongly recommend this hotel. For dining you will find plenty of great options in the neighborhood. The shopping street location can make it a bit difficult to find the entrance so make sure you do not pass the location at your arrival.

Room Tip: Go for a larger balcony room.

This hotel was a hands-down winner for us. When we pulled up outside it at about 9.30pm after a long drive, we were enthusiastically greeted by the duty manager who rushed out to our car with the warmest, happiest greeting we have ever experienced. It was like we were being greeted by our long-lost relative! Before we knew it the baggage guy was cheerfully loading our many pieces of baggage onto his trolley and after a quick check-in by a gem of a woman we were encouraged to go to our room and not to worry a moment about our luggage.
The room and its bathroom were functional, spotless, modern and beautifully styled, in line with the rest of the hotel which gave us a sense of occasion just being there.
The central location was excellent with shops, bars and restaurants just a few steps away and the city itself was charming and interesting and the people we encountered warm and friendly.
The internet was free and restricted to one device per room unless one went to reception for an access code for a second one, but logging in confounded my wife so we can't comment on its performance.
Based on our experience we would unreservedly recommend this hotel.

Very pleasant and hospitable. The beds are always very comfortable. is the fourth time we come to this hotel and we are always excited. The only a little sore is absolutely unprofessional approach of a waiter with an Arabic accent that ask for a cup of coffee there breathes a few inches from his face. What's even more disgusting we saw on croissants and sneeze on her hands and then touching with dirty hands the meats that we should eat. We felt sick. But where are the Italians who served us with great professionalism ? We hope not to be served by this person who would do well to change jobs or perhaps us to change hotels.

This hotel can be hard to find when you arrive by car without a city map as we did. It is so much in the center which is congested and confuing. Also it looks different than in the photos being in a narrow street. After arrival though, we vet much enjoyed our two day/nights stay during rainy days in Grenoble. The hotel is not very large, but elegant and luxurious and so on, although a bit overdone as to impress, with things such as extremely pure white minimalist room decor, and large overdeigned chairs you can actually not sit in. The bed and the bathroom very, very comfortable though. And the location when first you are there excellent, you can walk to everything. 3 minutes walk to the cable car rushing you up to splendid view of the city and mountains in no time etc. With less rain and clouds it would have been perfect basis for strolling; but the room size and quality makes it nice to also just lay low for hours. English was well spoken at the hotel, tourist info and hiking club just acress the street, as is the excellent tram. There is an OK breakfast room (you need to ask loud and clear for the omelet though, it is like the staff pretend it is not offered). I think itha place could deserve a cosier bar or something, in fact we wer surprised how difficult it was to find good cafes or bars in Grenoble city center - nearby restaurants, though were plentifull and really, really great.

Room Tip: Bring a detailed map printout to find the hotel first! Street side rooms are light while also quiet...

It's like showering in the rain.

We were tired after a long drive and it was a beautiful friendly space in which to recover. Clean and with some glamour. Lovely high windows and sense of space in the executive suite. We spent much of the evening taking turns in the very handsome bathroom and enjoying the slippers and robes and HUGE pillows ..delicious.

We did struggle to find it not noticing there was no address on the booking confirmation and had a close encounter with a tram before finding tourist information an hour after entering the city, our mistake but one to be avoided!

For me, I'd rate it 4.5 out of 5, but there is no such option; hence, 5 with some withdrawal.

The location is great, really close to all the major sites and within walking distance from the trains station. Some comments said the rooms are too small. We booked the cheapest room and found it quite sufficient for two. Room is clean, trendy and comfortable. Staffs are really friendly and helpful. Everything is great, but why don't I rate it 5?

We visited over the Easter weekend. Since we worried that it might be hard for us to get a table at any of the higher ranking restaurants, I called in advanced to the hotel asking them to help us book one. The gentleman at front desk answering the phone was extremely nice and polite. He gave me tips on which restaurants are better and promised to make reservation for us. When we arrived, I verified with them whether they had made such reservation, only to find that no, they didn't have such record. They immediately called the restaurant and got us a table that night though.

The room, as said, is trendy, but to me, honestly, the design of the bathroom is somewhat unpractical. The sink is really cool looking, but then we came to realize there is very little room to leave anything around the sink. There is no bathtub but shower, which is fine for us, but for the shower area, there basically is only one tiny wall separate it from the rest of the bathroom, so when you shower, the water still splattered around.

All in all, we had a great time here and would really recommend it to people.

I stayed here on business for 3 nights in early March.

Let's face it - Grenoble is not Paris. I travel extensively for business and have high standards - the options are few in Grenoble. Fortunately, the Grand Hotel is one of them.

You're not going to feel like royalty when you check in but the staff is amicable, efficient, and smartly attired. Common areas are well-lit in an interesting style that blends modernity with the old world feel of the building's shell.

Highlight experiences for me include:

- The bathroom - it is modern and while not opulent has very interesting fixtures. I loved the rain shower although I felt sorry for housekeeping which has to dry up all the water that sprays on the separate tub and the floor of the main sink area.

- The separate WC is a nice touch as are the Bogner brand toiletries.

- Breakfast in the am is well done by a hard-working kitchen staff. Presentation is excellent. I loved the Nespresso machine.

- An owner (I think he was the owner) that was present and cared enough to ask us about our stay each time we saw him.

The Grand is well appointed for the leisure traveler. As a business traveler it was fine. However, I did not have any complex printing or business needs while there.

It is the epitome of a small hotel where everything is just right but not over the top. For example, the in-room entertainment consists of a big HD IP TV with a lot of channels. It does not have iPod docks, an overwhelming number of light switches, etc. that you really don't need. The mini-bar is not huge but well stocked with realistic items.

I would stay here again should I find myself back in Grenoble.
