We took a chance on this museum based on other trip advisor reviews, and I have to agree it is an amazing little place to visit. I don't think many people have discovered the museum because there were only a few people visiting at the same time as us. The exhibits are especially well done, and the special effects lighting gives the crypt a surreal feeling. And yes, you really do walk above skeletons in the crypt! Very, very cool. I would rate this one of the top sites within the city of Grenoble. I couldn't believe it was free and they even give you an audio guide. Don't miss it!
If you decide to go, I recommend combining this with the cable car ride to the bastille. Buy a one way ticket to the top and enjoy the view as you walk down. The entrance to the museum is near the bottom of the walking path in a short tunnel. You can't miss it.
Alternately if you are driving, park on the north side of the Isere river and navigate to the church of St.Laurent or Place St Laurent. There should be some cheap parking off of Quai Perriere and then its an easy walk tot he museum down Rue Saint Laurent.
