“Good Chalet with friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2007

Myself and 2 families stayed here in February and had a fantastic weeks skiing. When we booked through ‘Supertravel’ we were a little nervous as we were told that the chalet had been completely gutted in the summer and we had thought as can often be the case that there would be teething problems. How wrong we were, the chalet was extremely comfortable and as I booked for another family I was please to see everyone liked it. I was only given 2 requirements, all rooms ensuite and close to the piste. It ticked both boxes and had so many others as well. The sauna was a welcome relief at the end of the day and the kids loved watching a DVD or playing a board game next to the fire in the evening. The chalet girls really did make it a home from home, great food – tea served in bed in the morning and I was shocked that I was drinking Chablis and St Emillion on a chalet holiday. It’s in 1550 so the snow wasn’t as good as higher up but all in all we had a fantastic week – so much so we might be going back! It wasn’t cheap but I did think it was worth it and if you’re after a luxury chalet I would certainly recommend it.

In future when a company feels the need to mention the manufacturer of the soap products to be found in the bathroom and the smell of cooked bacon then we shall be wary of the possibility that they are trying to dress up an otherwise perfectly dull experience. The Supertravel brochure boasts that it is the best chalet company in the Alps and the opening page of the brochure mentions helicopter transfers and all manner of possibilities that might make you think that they might be offering a luxury experience. This chalet is in their top bracket of chalets. ‘Just a hop, skip and a jump to the pistes’ translates as a trudge up an icy rubbish strewn alleyway to a chair lift that stops just short of taking you to 1850. There is no vehicular access. The accommodation that they describe as a chalet is actually the end of a terrace of run down local houses. The bedrooms are child size as are the beds, the bedding, the towels and the shower rooms (which didn’t have thermostats). There is only one bathroom. The corridors, the stairs and all the common parts are cramped. The sitting room has a good panoramic view. The girls who cooked for us were delightful and the food was good quality home cooking. The chalet manager was dreadful; she had no good advice or guidance on anything. The ski school that Supertravel recommended (Rennaissance) were just a ‘follow down the hill’ service, the ski hire company (Skihigher.com) did not even think to suggest that our children put on ski socks when measuring for boots, even then they failed to provide the correct sizes and the skis were not waxed and the helmets were broken. To top it all one of our group stumbled upon the note book in which the chalet staff keep a record of the guests. We were “tricky” and we were “obviously used to luxury accommodation”! Perdrix Blanches is not even close to Deluxe. It is fitted and designed to Student Digs standards and is in a very awkward location. It is run by an everyday travel company that do not appear to have skiing in the blood.
