“Appalling treatment and service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

In May 2012 I booked two rooms at Les Tovets for New Year 2012/13 and paid a 30% deposit in early September. On 30 September I received an email from the owner saying he is closing the hotel for 2012/13 , returning my deposit and telling me that I needed to find alternative accommodation. Not surpringly this is proving extremely difficult for a peak week in this very popular resort. New Year prices have increased signifiantly to reflect demand so I will be considerably out of pocket.

If this is the attitude that the owner, Mr Boonstoppel, has to his existing customers I hate to think how he will treat his new ones.

If you want undisputed luxury and opulence go stay at Le K2.
If you want friendly staff, guests, and great food, location and atmosphere stay at Tovets.
Eric & Co make a real effort to keep it personal.
The staff seem really chirpy. The lovely MAN room maker upper is soooo helpful. Ran up and down the stairs on both trips helping us with our bags.

We went in January and again in March 2012.
And will be back again in 2013.

The food is fab. I can't recommend it enough.
Oh and the skiing.......... The best we have had in 30+ trips.

You absolutely MUST do the luge that sets of from the lower side of 1850.
Completely nuts and very very funny!!!!

After reading some of the other reviews there must be a hidden part to this hotel because our room was horrible. The bathroom looked as though it had been tiled by the waiter on his day off sometime in the 70's and the toilet door opened onto the bed. The food was rationed and the orange juice watered down, many people seemed happy to take their own fruit juice to breakfast. When the Muesli and Honey ran out on the 2nd day we were told "when it's gone thats it". The bar seems to be for non residents as it is open for business all day but shuts during dinner. Perhaps the owners are struggling to make ends meet as there is penny pinching at every level. Some of the other clients seemed prepared to accept this hotels faults as it allowed them to stay in 1850, my advice would be to stay somewhere else, somewhere nice. This hotel is not cheap and does not represent good value for money. On a positive note the location is excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony

We have been coming to Courchevel for many years and this is far by the best value hotel in 1850. We had a superb room with a sunny balcony overlooking the piste that was large, comfortable and quiet. 1850 is extremely expensive and you have to remember with the hotel you are paying for the location right on the slopes, we have paid triple these prices and have had smaller rooms in other hotels in Courchevel. The food is good and represents excellent value and we certainly saved a lot of money by going half board, we even had a few lunches in the bar and again found the prices extremely reasonable. Courchevel is in a bubble of wealth and this needs to be understood when visiting the resort, it is like going to Saint Tropez and complaining about the cost of beach beds, you are paying for the resort and to be honest we did not think we would be able to afford to stay in 1850 again until we found Les Tovets. Courchevel 1850 has some amazing skiing and great bars if you want to people watch even if you do spend a small fortune on a round of drinks. We will definitely be back.

Just returned from Les Tovets. Can't say I will go again. Although the rooms were comfortable and the proprietor friendly enough and in a good location, this isnt enough to make a good hotel. The sauna and steam room were not switched on when I went down and the plug cover in the shower was loose so I nearly fell. There is a weird baseball room with a pool table but not very inviting. The dinners were basic and varied in quality. Vegetable soup overload and tiny portions of steak frites. We were in the last week of the season so many things were crossed off or tippexed off the menu including most of the wines. There is no pleasant lounge area to go after dinner to relax and chat. One night after dinner at about 8.30 we attempted to go through to the bar area to have a coffee to be confronted by someone scrubbing the floors with industrial strength cleaner and taking bags of rubbish out. On returning to the dining room we had to watch them putting out the breakfast things! We ended up watching TV in our rooms. On the last night the floor scrubbing started at 5.30. In the morning no eggs, ham or cheese were put out, just bread and jam. I understand it is the last week of the season but that is no excuse when people have paid good money for a holiday.

Not sure who's written the other reviews. This hotel is quite simply rubbish. The room was small, The Bed was uncomfortable. The Bar closed at 9pm. Some of the staff had serious attitude problems. Half of the Wines on the Wine List had sold out. Orange Juice at Breakfast was Orange Squash. When provisions ran out, like the Muesli and Honey, we were told that once it's gone it's gone! I could go on. If the hotel was €100 per night i would not be complaining - it wasn't. It delivered no value at all. I suppose i should add that the food was OK.

We enjoyed an excellent week in March. The room was comfortable , the food enjoyable and the staff friendly. Add in blue skies every day and it was near perfect.
