“Our home in Courchevel (albeit, less grandeur than it used to be...)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2012

This hotel, once known as the Byblos des Neiges, has changed hands a few years ago. The location is still one of the best in Courchevel, and the rooms are the same. However, it has lost some of its glamour. The food is good (again - the buffet lunch used to be outstanding). Service is fine - especially the very attentive concierges. We keep coming back, as we like the place, but would be nice to see the place get back to its glory days.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012

This is a 5 star luxury hotel, in a perfect location above Courchevel 1850, with good quality dining and an outstanding level of service.
- Location: Most people come to Courchevel to ski. There is no comparison between Courchevel 1850 and the villages lower down, such as 1650 and 1550, in terms of snow. This hotel is situated above Courchevel 1850, with ski-in, ski-out access on the Jardin Alpin piste. It is also adjacent to a station for the Jardin Alpin gondola, which stays open in the evenings, allowing guests convenient access to the village in the evenings without having to rely on taxis. From the dining room and some of the rooms, there are lovely forest views.
- Dining: The restaurant provides good quality traditional French dining, using excellent fresh produce, including a number of luxury choices. For hotel guests on half-board, this includes breakfasts and either a set menu for dinner or lunch. It is a nice touch that guests are able to vary their choices from the set menu by substituting items from the a la carte list and just pay the difference (if any). We found the restaurant very accommodating with children's portions. Good wine list and a helpful sommelier. We thought that generally the service in the restaurant had improved this year compared with previous years and the courses were served at a good pace.
- Rooms: On average, French hotel rooms tend to be smaller than the rooms that people from English-speaking countries are accustomed to. We always prefer to have a suite. Rooms are comfortable but could perhaps benefit from some updating.
- Service: The service at the front-desk has always been outstanding. A number of the staff have been with the hotel for many years. They know the area well, they go out of their way to help and their English is good. Service in the ski room is also great. It is such a bonus to have someone to help with getting boots on and off, putting things away and getting them out etc.
- This is an expensive hotel, but it is less expensive if you stay there after the Russians have finished their holidays and before the French arrive.
