Rooms ugly. No garage. Not well kept. Night bar transformed to breakfast room. Noisy lobby and bar. Smiling reception. Not even for masochist. Not worth to write 200 characters. Not even 100. Not even 50.

Room Tip: Rather sleep in your car.

In brief

Tiny stuffed rooms, not at all resembling their website photos. No wardrobe. Only 7 TV channels. Very unfriendly staff. Good breakfast. Good bar. Ancient elevator. Loud music from the bar downstairs until 2 am every night.

In details

Staff

This is a home away from home... where guests are NOT welcome. Staff is hardly ever smiling and pleasant. Most of the time it looks like they are bothered by guests or really don't understand what type of business they are in. Receptionist gave us wrong directions to the closest cable-ride up the slopes, insisting there is no way to get there by bus. Imagine walking 1 kilometer uphill with all skiing equipment, only to discover a bus-station right in front of the cable-ride station. Bar staff demonstrates openly discriminatory treatment of female customers. Female bartender literally ignored me, yet I was right in front of her holding money, smiling, trying to catch her attention. She'd serve all males around, but ignore me. Luckily there was a male bartender who approached me, like 15 minutes after.

Room

Our room was on the second floor and starting from 5 pm up to 2 am it was impossible to fall asleep or relax. I cannot imagine how people on the 1st floor managed to sleep. Rooms are really shabby, out-of-date, and just don't seem that clean somehow. No wardrobe, but a wooden stick connecting two adjacent walls, with a couple of hangers on it. Stand-up shower separated from other bathroom area by a shower-curtain. Water is all over the place after taking a shower, as you can imagine. Flat TV screen is tiny as a GPS, and has 7 channels (1 in German, 1 in unknown language, and 5 in English, no French channels at all!). Elevator is antique-looking, which is nice, but you really need to wait for it. Ski/snowboard and luggage storage room is outside of the hotel, you need to ask for a key and bring it back to reception each time you go there.

Breakfast

The only good thing about this place. 10 euros per person. Really good breakfast. Fresh/dried fruits, nuts, muesli, cereals, sausage, ham, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, toasts, croissants, cheeses, cold cuts, jams, coffee, juices. By the way, if you don't approach the receptionist and tell her that you had breakfast, they will never know, so you can have it for free. No one bothers to check who enters and exits the breakfast room.

Location

Walking distance from the center. Lots of eateries on the street where hotel is located. Small grocery store just a few steps away.

Conclusion

I worked in hotel industry long enough to realize that sincere hospitable service is more important than marble bathrooms, silk linen and other unnecessary luxury. This hotel made a profound bad imression on me. I will never stay there again. And I strongly recommend you look for a different place to stay while in Chamonix.

Room Tip: Take upper floors, otherwise you will not be able to sleep.

Hotel is very central, very popular apres ski bar downstairs. We got a very good room rate. The room was small( attic room), but it was perfect for a short ski trip. The room was clean, very warm and had very comfortable beds. This hotel is near the railway station and close to many bars and restaurants, I would go back.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter, but be aware that 4th floor/attic rooms are small

We are still here 20th March 2013.

We specifically booked a double room with a bath only to be given a twin with a shower. The room they gave us was above the kitchen flue. When asked about this they gave us another room but no bath. We were then given a room in the 'attic' it had a bath but a massive beam that we both kept hitting. VERY POOR.

This was a twin room and we were promised by 'Estelle' on reception that we would be given a double mattress the next day. This was NOT done. When we complained the house keeper came and put a double sheet over the two twin mattress's. VERY POOR.

We complained to 'Estelle' who then told us there were no double beds here and this is how they did it. VERY POOR.

There was no window but it did have a velox window in the ceiling.

We were given incorrect information by reception staff 'Sara' and then 'Estelle' with regards to bus information to the point we got on the right bus going in the wrong direction and thus missed our first ski lesson.

The maids came and 'cleaned' the room. They replaced the towels. NEVER replenished the complimentary bathroom toiletries. They NEVER made the bed. VERY POOR.

When we enquired about the toiletries we were told you only get one upon arrival. VERY POOR.

The breakfast is a good selection. If only they bothered to replenish the items. The hot milk is warm and the porridge is like cement. The bacon greasy and no consistency on its presentation. The scrambled eggs taste of chalk.

When we ask for the food to be replenished they either did not bother or scoured at us.

All the young staff look miserable unless your drinking or drunk.

The reception area toilet has not been cleaned for 2 days. Both hand paper towels and toilet paper has ran out. I told 'Estelle' she said she would have a look. But she is too busy on the PC.

Do not use their ski equipment locker as it is in a back alley and we found it was usually left open.

All the staff look far too young with faces like thunder. It seems too much of a chore to them to help you.

I hope the next few days improve but i am not optimistic.

If you want to stay in a doss house full of miserable teenagers this is your place but we will not be coming back here.

The hotel was very basic, but it suited our needs for a short trip,.The room is not very spacious, ours was by no means the size represented in the hotel pictures, but it was comfortable and very clean. The bed, however, was amazingly comfortable and very very large. The bathroom was actually a wet room (no separate shower and no bath) but the water pressure made it up for it.

As we had read tripadvisor reviews, we requested a quieter room far away from the bar and we really did not have any issues with the noise unless we opened the windows, which was necessary as the heating in the hotel was a bit suffocating. Regardless, the music seemed to die down by 10, so even with the windows open it wasn't a problem for us.

Keep in mind the hotel is not very close to the Brevent lift, so you have to either take a little bus and connect to another bus, walk 15 minutes to the bus stop, or walk up a VERY steep hill, to get the lift.

Overall, it was good value and we'd consider returning.

Room Tip: If you care about the noise, definitely request a room at the back of the hotel. Also, our room didn...

A short skiing trip with friends required a certain type of accommodation. Key was proximity to the apres ski (big tick - it is right underneath you) and a quiet night's sleep (rather surprisingly, also tick) and ease of access to the slopes (well, it is Chamonix so nothing can deliver that one!)

The staff were exceptionally helpful - even managed to put in an extra bed in our room the day before to accommodate an extra friend) - and the beds were comfortable. Room was fairly small, even without the extra bed, but the bathroom was clean. Breakfast was extra, but a decent and varied buffet.

The reception looks good and modern, upstairs is fairly faded, but it is clean and friendly so I would happily stay here again. I've stayed in better, sure, but boy I've stayed in worse!
