“Romantic, beautiful and great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011 via mobile

We stayed in this hotel for a weekend and we loved it. Every single detail is romantic and well thought, from the animal metal silhouette in the garden to the beautiful decorations of the room. Ours was supposed to be the attic but for internal reasons they upgraded it to a mini suite. Charming!! So we had a fantastic room, the one in all the hotel website pictures, with a big and comfortable bathroom (really big shower with massaging showerhead), really good mattresses and.....a marvellous view on the Mont Blanc! You can't imagine what that is at dawn!
For the first morning we had breakfast, rich and diversified, with cakes, fresh fruit, yogurt, cheese etc.etc. We didn't have it the second morning just because it was a little too expensive for us (13 euro each).
The manager/ owner (we are not sure) are really nice and helpful, ready to suggest restaurant and to give info about the activities in the area, especially the man (i think Frederique) with whom we joked about my inexistent french!
I didn't give it 5 points for location just beacuse it's really close to a street exiting the town and with the windows open you can hear it. But the hitel is also at a 2 minute walk from the city centre...so it is well located.

Am staying at the Auberge now and it's really cute ! Rooms are scrupulously clean, beds really comfortable and the ensuite shower was great after a day in the mountains. The blind cat and the ancient dog give the place a home-like feel and the owners couldn't be more helpful. Looking forward to trying the breakfast in the morning and am currently typing this from free wifi so all in all I'm really impressed. BTW - noise from outside is hardly noticeable and our parking was free...(I think its 10 euros if you want you own garage).

I stayed here for two nights after receiving a local recommendation. It is a locally managed and run small scale inn. The staff are very friendly. The room I stayed in was recently remodeled. They have a really nice buffet breakfast that costs extra, but worth it unless you are looking for an American style hot breakfast. Also there is no elevator. It didn't seem right to have the lady behind the desk haul my luggage to the third floor, so I did it. It s conveniently located in central Chamonix. Also have a hot tub on site. I wouldn't say the staff were fluent English speakers, but between my broken French and their broken English we managed quite well. I would have no problem staying here again.

This place has pluses and minuses for us, but you may have different preferences. Pluses first: Owners were friendly & obviously care about presenting/maintaing quality. Our room was VERY clean, modern, updated, & well presented. Relaxing outdoor area with sun & shade seating. Hot tub available. Great proximity to the train station via 'secret stairs'. The resident dog & cat are very sweet & welcoming. Free WiFi. Now the minuses (or at least I thought so): Road noise. The hotel is nested next to a highway-like road on one side & speeding cars/motorcycles are heard full on until 11pm and then again at 7-7:30am. Closing the window softens it only 5-10%, but then there's no cool/fresh summer air. The video cameras are in the general hallways outside the rooms. This gives the feeling like something's up (?theft issues) or the owners are freaked about their guests doing something naughty/rowdy. The cameras/surveillance was very different than any other hotel we entered or stayed at while in Chamonix (Just sayin....). And the last ding would be thin walls allowing well...noise to be shared between rooms. Thankfully our neighbors went to sleep quickly. Overall, it was nice & is definitely better than many options in Chamonix.

We noted your comments on the noise and are looking into it. Regarding cameras, as you know, the reception desk is closed at night and we must be able to monitor hallways for regulatory and safety reasons.
thanks a lot for your comments!

This hotel is in a great location which is easy to find when driving into Chamonix and parking is provided on site. We weren’t charged for parking. When we arrived we were met by, I believe, the 2 owners & the dog,who were very helpful and friendly and where always available for any questions during the 3 nights we stayed, plus they spoke good English.

The hotel itself is so picturesque and really fits into the Alps wooden chalet look. We had a double room on the top floor (stairs up to it, we couldn’t see an elevator anywhere) which had a nice mixture of chalet & modern look. The bathroom had no bath, just a shower but the shower was fantastic, quite big and powerful with a rain shower head. Towels, hairdryer and slippers were provided. The room also had a small balcony with seats and a fold down table which was perfect to sit & relax in. We didn’t hear any noise from the main road, we also didn’t notice any penalty signs anywhere, if they were there they weren’t noticeable. There was also free wifi in the hotel.

The theme in the hotel was hearts as they were everywhere, in the wood, curtains, pictures and even the room key was a wooden heart. This was electronic and you push the button while pointing at the door, similar to central locking in a car. You could leave the key in a drawer in reception when you went out but we chose to take it with us even if it was a bit bulky as we thought anyone could lift the key out of the drawer.

The hotel has a bar area which is really nice to sit back & relax in although while we were there (in Aug) it closed at 9pm. Breakfast was the normal buffet style with cheese, cold meats, bread etc… but there was the added touch of homemade yoghurts and tarts which were lovely. I saw a hot tub in the grounds of the hotel but we never used it or enquired about it.

The hotel is a short (couple of minutes walk) to the main streets and there are numerous little cafes and restaurants along the way for dinner or lunch. The view from the hotel is beautiful as you are looking up at the impressive mountains and glaciers. We actually happened to be there for the Ultra Trail du Mount Blanc which was great as the atmosphere in town was fantastic.

This hotel is definitely not the cheapest in town but I believe it is should be rated more than a 3 star hotel. The hotel had a warm, friendly feel about it and the service was great. I would definitely recommend this hotel

My husband and I stayed two nights at the Auberge and had a fabulous experience. The location is just 5 minutes walking distance from the center of town and a block away from a main street market. There is parking right in front. The husband and wife team are super attentive and here to make you feel welcome. The whole place is just charming - there are flower buckets everywhere, the rooms an have adorable wood- filled feel, and the decoration is full of hearts and cow emblems. Our room even had slippers waiting for us! The quality of the furtniture and bathroom amenities is excellent. Breakfast was delicious -homemade yogurt, eggs, breads, cheese, cereal and croissants. They even had a variety of gluten free options for me like rice crackers and gluten free madeleins. There is a jacuzzi outdoors and lounge chairs.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2011

It’s hard to find a real good hotel in Chamonix. This summer we tried two nights at Auberge du Manoir. The hotel is one of few hotels in Chamonix with a nice interior. It’s interior is far behind other hotels in the Alps like Garni Himmelhof in St. Anton, Austria and Garni Rosengarten in Selva Gardena, Italy but the room was nice, the bath room very nice and the breakfast room was pretty cozy as well. The other common room downstairs wasn’t too interesting. Outside was an enchanting garden. We loved the breakfast as well.
But we will not stay here next time in Chamonix. Why? The hotel is situated in the centre of town, but close to a road. So when you are on the balcony you will hear much traffic noise. But what we did dislike was that we didn’t feel like guests, but like someone who were going to pay us much as possible to the management. If you park your car you have to pay (outside parking which several other hotels in Chamonix don’t charge). If you have to leave the luggage they will charge you. And if you want to keep the room until 14.00 you have to pay for ½ a night extra and if you keep it until 15.30 you have to pay for one extra day. When checking in is from 15.30 this means that if you are silly enough to keep the room until 15.30 they get paid one extra night and the next guest will pay for the night as well. They then get paid double for the following night. Of course this isn’t something which do happen frequently, but it tells us that the management tries to get as much money from the guests as possible. This is a “Ryan Air policy” which shouldn’t be the policy of a pretty expensive hotel.
Another thing which annoyed us: On the glass door to the balcony there was a sigh which told us that if we smoked we would have to pay 58 (or was it 68?) Euro in penalty! It’s the first hotel where I have been told about penalties if I do something. We are non smokers and we understand that it’s obvious that this very old wooden building have to be a non smoking hotel. But you just don’t put this sign up on the balcony door. I also have to mention that when we came to the hotel, the first thing we noticed was the signs (two of them) that it was not allowed to make a u-turn into the hotel drive.
I would say that to visit Auberge du Manoir was like coming home to some friends who have got a very nice house, but who make you pay for everything and who have "panalty" signs signs all around with what isn’t allowed. I don’t think you would visit these friends again even if they offered you a very nice house!
