“It could be nice if we were given a window”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

I booked Le Prieure over the Internet. Upon entering, we had a good impression and liked the hotel. However, the room we got was at the top level with the chalet style attic angle, and only a TINY window. Our hotel room was therefore totally dark and felt like a dungeon. The receptionist refused to give us another room. I mentioned my dissatisfaction again during the checkout next morning. The supervising head receptionist was rude and unfriendly. Beware.

The hotel is perfectly located to enjoy all that the village of Chamonix has to offer. The décor throughout the hotel is quite dated and the facilities a little Spartan but they are adequate to meet the needs of a traveller. This seems of little importance when you walk out onto the balcony off your room and look upwards and around at the magnificent sight of the French Alps and in particular the majestic Mont Blanc which towers over the village. Breakfast provided a reasonable choice and was adequate for our needs. Contact with staff was minimal staff but when it occurred it was courteous and pleasant. This is a comfortable, basic hotel in a stunningly beautiful part of the world.

Room Tip: Ask for a room as close to and facing the street as possible

Nice staff in the reception, very helpful! Spacy room with a balcony and a view of Mont Blanc. The breakfast was unimpressive, but provided the basics. The location is excellent, with everything in walking distance, yet a few blocks away from the noisy bars. The hotel skirental was quite good, but make sure you avoid the morningrush, as there is only one person on the job...

Room Tip: High up for a better view of Mont Blanc!

The hotel and decor have for sure seen better days, but the rooms are clean and the appliances are working, that's what mattered most to us as we were out snowboarding all day anyway and falling into bed after dinner. The staff is friendly and helpful and check-out is extremely well organized and quick.
The location is brilliant - just a few steps away from the center (pedestrian zone, shops, restaurants and bars), but quiet. No sound from late-night party-goers from the street, but unfortunately, the hotel could be more soundproof. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper!

Having been shown a few options by various hotels we ended up at Hotel Prieure. Its nice! Great views of Mt. Blanc. Large outdoor area and very close to city centre. Everything is clean and staff were friendly. Big plus was the free parking so close to the city centre. My only negative experience was having to pay steeply for a simple cup of tea - tea should be complementary for hotel guests.

Very helpful staff. Very handy to have ski rental service (reasonable price) in hotel. Spacious rooms but decor a little dated. Great location. Good buffet breakfast.
Shame that wi-fi had to be paid for.

Room Tip: i was given a suite for the same price as the double room, which was a pleasant surprise.

Stayed here for a week of skiing in Feb 2013. As many have said this is not a five star hotel, BUT:
PRO
It is in a great location within the Chamonix town. You will have to take trnaport to ski, but you can easily walk to dinner.
There is a very pleasant lobby and a "five star" fireplace.
The restaurant food is good if a tad pricey.
There is a bar as part of the dining room, but not much "action" - which was just fine for us. I'd prefer a quiet hotel and go elsewhere for the action.
Ski rental shop right in hotel is a bit grotty byu well equipped with friendly knowledgable staff.
We found all staff to be helpful.
There is also a nice little hot tub and sauna tucked away.
There appears to be a shuttle service that stops outside.
CON
If you're driving there is indoor parking but there are few spots and its a tight to manouvre.
Whole place was built in 1970's and is showing its age somewhat, rooms OK but not glam at all. Don't take someone here if you wan to "wow" them. On the other hand we always got a solid good night's sleep.
HINTS
For meals check out "L'Imprévu" - good value great service. Barteval also very good.
