“Best experience we had in Annecy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

We ate twice here during our week in Annecy and firstly must disagree with previous reviewers about the service, which we found to be charming and courteous. All the food we tried was five star, beautifully cooked and presented. On our first visit we found the starters to be quite large, so on the second visit we asked so share a starter, the smoked salmon. Instead of the expected shared plate, the restaurant had split the dish into separate plates, so three of us had a small delicious portion of smoked salmon which had been prepared in 5 different ways. The main courses were all great, and on the occasion we had a dessert it was large enough for two.So, please do try this lovely restaurant.

“Gorgeous food but service comes without a smile.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

We stumbled upon this restaurant upon arriving late to Annecy after a hectic day of travelling and we're happy our hasty choice was with Chez Mamie Lise. It was extremely busy but we were still accommodated for at 9:30pm, even though the welcome wasn't the most friendly.

Not afraid to try something new I opted for the Steak Tartare from the slightly above average price menu after spotting another customer devouring a large plate of it elsewhere in the cosy surroundings. I wasn't disappointed and the helping was more than adequate. My partner went for the Chicken Fricassee Gratinee which was utterly divine.

The wine list as one may expect is pretty vast, but you don't have to spend a fortune to get a good quality white or red if you look. We went for the Rousette de Savoie which is a lovely, crisp, regional white.

If you're offered a French menu for either wine or food then don't be afraid to ask a stubborn waiter for an English one which should make choosing a little easier. They are available but it's a bit of a gamble as to which one you receive and if you're good at French then take it as a compliment if you're given a native menu!

We enjoyed our first night so much here that on the last night we came back to sample the Cheese Fondue. Upon seeing other customers with a portion we decided to share as the helping was colossal, with our option including a large basket of bread, mixed charcuterie, a large potato, a side salad and of course a large, steaming pan of cheese. The waiter was confused and borderline 'insulted' by this and persisted on attempting to make us order two portions, obviously doubling the takings. We were glad that we were equally stubborn as we could barely finish the bread / meats and there was still a healthy amount of delicious cheese remaining, but this seemed to put the gentleman's back up a little for the remainder of our evening. An older waiter also served us that evening and was equally rude so it appears to be an endemic attitude at this establishment; this is something that can be ignored very easily however, mainly as the food is so good.

So to conclude, if you want genuine, good quality French cuisine in decent portions at about the average price for this expensive little town then you must pay this restaurant a visit, but if you value polite, attentive service above anything else then look elsewhere.

Chez Mamie Lise: Genuine French food. Genuine French service.

“Well, at least the food was good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Food was good, service was stereotypically French rude, even having someone in our party that spoke decent French... asked twice for a glass of wine, never got it, weren't allowed to order 3 salads and 2 fondues to split for a party of 3 (had to order a 3rd fondue), seemed to be annoyed when we had to keep calling them over to relight the fondue warmers. Despite the food being delish, would hesitate to return given the service.

“Perfect summer evening dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

A birthday treat for my wife from our son and partner. Not so 'overlooked' as you dine outside because it is not on the main route to town however it is easy to find and a warm summer evening makes all the difference. The food was excellent even for 2 vegetarians. Friendly service with well prepared and presented food made a perfect meal. The wine list was extensive but not expensive. The cheese board (slate) was a heart stopper and wonderful

“Slightly pricey but good quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Nice interior design all in wood, the quality of food is very good. I took filet de perche (lake fish) and it was cooked very well, my dad took St. Jacques with risotto and he was enthusiastic. The waiter who served us was very kind. French dessert like tarte Tatin are also good. Price is a just a bit higher than Annecy's average, but I think it is worth it.
