i've read other reviews about this hotel and i think they are wrong. i thought that it was great value for money. i was there on a rugby trip and the hotel was perfect for us. if your planning on spending a lot of time in your hotel room then i wouldn't chose this place... but if its a cheap night and just somewhere to rest your head then its just right.

having spent two nights at the etap in toulon i would reccomend the hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the centre of toulon.
the rooms were plenty big enough and the breakfast was fine
when you weigh up what you pay for this hotel it can only be described as a bargain
the next i go anywhere i will be staying in an etap hotel.

L’otel Etap is clean, cheap & cheerful and well positioned. I have a couple of suggestions for you if you are staying in this hotel:

On arrival spend a couple of minutes checking out the front of the building and surrounding area. The last thing you want is to find yourself wandering around at 6am having to bother a kind man in the petrol station who eventually has to draw you a small map for you to stagger the 50 meter straight line back to the hotel entrance.

When heading back to the Hotel in the early hours, don’t try taking a short cut through the car park, you’ll never get out.

On arrival, spend time locating the lights in your room and noting where they are. If you hang anything on your clothes rail you may find that when you finally get back to your room, it has no light switches. Try to remain calm and remember your previous efforts in marking the light switch positions. Kicking the wall will not help you, especially if you recently had an operation on your ankle, you may also wake up some poor tired person in the next room.

Try to get yourself booked in to room 601 or 603. Both these rooms give you a full view of the pitch which is right next door. So if you have bad weather you could quite easily watch the game from your room.

If it’s a very sunny day, take a hat, there’s no shade in this stadium.

The entrance to Etap is on the ground floor but reception is on the first floor. There is a rear exit to the hotel next to the reception desk and just across a small tarmac area is an entrance to the stand (yours, as a visitor, will probably be diagonally opposite side of the stadium though) and also the entrance to a large shopping centre. McDonalds being downstairs at the far end.

Yes it’s nearly £5 a pint, get over it.

If you exit the hotel via reception and go down the stairs on your left, turn right at the bottom and follow the wall of the stadium car park approx. 300yds to the end of the block. Just around the corner on your right is a very popular pub/club which doesn’t seem to shut. It had quite a few pretty girls dancing there all night on the Friday. Go there only if you have the will power to leave. On the left you will see the petrol station and just across from there is where the Toulon Rugby Club have their big meal & party. It’s sketchy but I believe I had a great time there.

Don’t concern yourself too much with avoiding the local lampposts, they do seem to have an extraordinarily loud ring to them if you manage to stumble and plant your forehead on them but they have obviously been built with this sort of impact in mind as neither you or the lamppost will be any the worse off for the impact. You may however deeply concern people standing around you so I suggest that, purely for the welfare of others, you try to avoid this.

The pub/club I mentioned earlier is on a busy main road that runs parallel with the harbour which has lots of café’s etc and 15 mins walk down the road is an Irish bar which had a friendly bunch of people in it.

On your last day, before handing over the keys to reception and going for a walk, remember to do your ablutions in your bedroom. There is a communal toilet above reception on the second floor but you may find that all the other Rugby supporters made the same mistake but just happened to beat you there. You may then find yourself in the worst smelling room you’ve ever had the misfortune to enter. If you are forgetful and fail to heed this warning then do try to remember this one.. Check there is enough toilet paper in the holder before you start or you may have to use all that paper you put down on that stinking seat before you sat down. There are only two cubicles and I guarantee there will be no paper in the other one either.

Enjoy your trip
