“Very comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2010

We enjoyed our 3 night stay at Hotel Sous les Figuiers. Great parking, very close to town, room was comfy if a bit spartan & cold. My only real criticism is a lack of a small fridge..the terrace is perfect for an afternoon wine but nowhere to keep the wine cold. There is a communal room that could easily have a fridge in it for clients use.

We just got back from a ten day trip to Paris and Provence. We stayed at this hotel the whole time in Provence with our two daughters. It is charming! A 5-minute walk from St-Remy-de-Provence, close to all the shops and restaurants, yet you feel miles away. Our room looked over a garden of fig trees. We had breakfast delivered to our terrace each morning and a glass of wine there each night. The staff is friendly, helpful, just wonderful. My parents are staying there in a week on our recommendation. The breakfast is huge and so delicious! Don't bother going into town, eat here! I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

I have been more than remiss in writing this review as it has been awhile since I visited Hotel Sous les Figuiers. At first, I refused to write a review for fear that everyone would want to visit this lovely hotel and it would be overrun with "tourists" but my love of this hotel and need to sing it's praises has finally overtaken me.
As you pull up to large gates, off a side street from the main square in St. Remy, you are immediately welcomed and your car is now in a private driveway. The owner "Coops" (I do hope I have that spelling correct) is very charming and accommodating. She shows us to a lovely room situated in a courtyard of fig trees. The room has a private balcony,on which, if you wish, you can sit each morning and Coops will bring you breakfast with the freshest and best croissant, breads, homemade jams, yogurt and coffee. you've ever had. The rooms are (we were in #5) spacious, comfortable with a marble en suite. Coops and any of the staff will take great time in helping you map out your day or arrange tours or see to any need or question you might have. This allowed me to travel each day, after a good breakfast, to tour the towns of Provence with perfect directions and points of interest to see in hand. After a long day, to then come back to this wonderful hotel, to sit on the porch with a glass of wine and to finally sleep in a comfortable bed with lovely bed linens truly was a pleasure. As you can tell I love this place..the setting among the fig trees in truly beautiful and well worth the price.

San Remy is the town to see -- and be seen in, -- when visiting Provence. The Hotel Sous les Figuiers is a B&B on a quiet side street just one block off the "main drag" that consists of about a dozen rooms built motel-style around an old fig orchard. Sound carries easily between the units, so it's a good thing the mostly middle-aged guests seem content to retire quietly after a bottle of Cotes du Rhone and a three-hour meal at one of the nicer restaurants. There are no TVs, clock radios or other electronic distractions in the rooms, giving the place a kind of monastic feel.
The very friendly staff prepares a generous breakfast of rolls, fruits, yogurt, juice and coffee that will help get you started in the morning. They also provide helpful tips on day trips, vineyard visits and open-air markets in the area. There is a small pool on the premises and a computer terminal in a common room with high-speed Internet. Two staff cats prowl the premises.
Prices are reasonable for the area, and the location is ideal for quick visits to Avignon, Arles, Baux de Provence or the Saint-Paul de Mausole monestery on the edge of town -- where Van Gogh painted some of his most famous works while being subjected to 19th century treatments for the insane. If you're looking for a small town French town experience, this is a very worthy choice.

The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of the town which has many good restaurants and bars. The room had a lovely comfy bed, was clean and had a large bathroom with bath and shower. The wooden terrace lead out to the garden where it is possible to pick the figs streat from the trees. The pool is small but ideal for a dip on a hot day. The staff and owners are very helpful and friendly. There is free internet access and a small collections of books. The garden is lovely with areas to sit. There is adequate parking and is very quiet even though it is so close to the town. Ideal base for exploring the provence countryside. We will definately go back another tiem and would highly recommend it to everyone.

My wife and I just loved staying at the Sous le Figueres, or "under the figtrees". Gisele and Coops run the prettiest, cleanest, most comfortable 12-room hotel in St. Remy.

We had an ample-sized room with en-suite bath, a lovely little covered front terrace with 2 lounge chairs and a small table and chairs. And true to it's name, there were plenty of fig trees in the large garden which separated the rooms.

Internet is free and available wirelessly or through the computer set out for guests use.

Breakfast is great and the staff is most helpful in mapping out the town and region for you. Also the pool is a big plus on those warm July days.
