“Excellent helpful staff, beautiful tranquil setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

The chateau and park are very beautiful, I wish we had time to stay more than one night.

Staff were extremely helpful.

We had dinner at the restaurant and sat outside as it was so warm. Our waiter was very attentive and made excellent recommendations from the wine list.

Mini bar had everything we needed. Unfortunately the wifi wasn't available the night we stayed.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 'Renaude' which was huge. Has a bath but no shower.

The chateau is a beautiful building in a lovely setting. However, we were disappointed in some of the room amenities for the price (very limited storage, small towels, and shower only hand-held). I was surprised that the tub-caulking needed bleach. The property should also have a swimming pool. We thought the meals were expensive. Fortunately, the bed was comfortable, the location quiet, the AC efficient, the wi-fi good, and the staff was friendly.

Chateau de Roussan is a magnificent french provencial mansion and arboretum property that is almost frozen in time. We were taken with the entire experience. We stayed one night during our Duvine bike tour of Provence and decided to go back and stay one additional night before departing the region. the srvice and food are wonderful (a bit expensive but worth the experience). The wine steward was extremely knowledgeable and friendly - not high brow at all. The hotel is immaculate and 21st century in terms of infrastructure but you feel like you are in the early 19th century - just wonderful. While no pool, water runs all through the property from mountain streams and the grounds are well kept as but deliberately not over manicured to keepthe natural landscpae feeling. It's like an arboretum - the huge Sycamores line the drive and encircle the courtyard. Rarely does a hotel blow me away like thisone did. The coup de graswas herds of sheep getting tended to next door by dogs while the sun set over the field lined with cedars. What's more, you can walk tost remy - a wonderful little city. Truly an authentic Provence experience. Highly recommended out of body experience!

Room Tip: go for the second floor (Premiere etage)

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights at the end of June. We are a family of 5 and booked two rooms. Our rooms were on the second floor. The first room was very large, but had a twin bed for two people. The second one was very dark and much smaller. The beds were all very small, too. The AC did not work properly in the second room. Also, the ventilation did not work in the bathroom. The wifi did not work during the first couple of days.

Considering the international rates the hotel charges, it needs to investment in beds, wifi, better AC, ventilation and also offer room service.

The property is beautiful and well-located, but definitely better options with more comfort are available in Provence for the same price.

How nice to come up the Chateau's long tree-lined drive after a hot day at historic sites and interesting towns. Even better was coming into our air-conditioned room to find comfortable furnishings, well-equipped bathroom and storage, good lighting and outside terraces on two sides of the room. A little disappointed that there was no swimming pool, but we soon cooled off in some of the comfortable chairs set out in the immense garden. A highlight of our stay was dining on the large terrace at the front of the chateau. The food was very good and the setting magical. The staff were all very nice and we enjoyed walking the quiet back lane into the centre of St. Remy for the fantastic Wednesday market.

Room Tip: Book on the ground floor if you want to have ready access to the outdoor terraces and seating.

We used Chateau de Roussan as a base for a five-day exploration of Provence. It is a beautiful and quiet place. Driving in we missed the turn off a couple times off the D-99, and it was a bit intimidating when we finally did access the tree-lined allee up to the house to see the chateau looming at the end of drive.

If you've read the previous reviews, you know that the property has been completely renovated in recent years. Most everything is impeccable in the interior of the hotel. They have chosen to keep the grounds rather rustic, however, a choice that after staying there we heartily endorse. The summer weather was perfect and we got in the habit of touring in the region from the morning into the mid-afternoon, and then choosing a couple lawn chairs that they have scattered around the property and reading and sun bathing for the balance of the afternoon. It is perfectly quiet and peaceful, and a great place to just relax.

We had a room on the ground floor facing the inner courtyard. Our room was very dark, as being on the ground floor with just a glass doorway to the outside (no other windows), there was little natural light and the interior room lights were weak. At first I thought this would be a problem, but we spent so little time in the room that it really didn't matter. The advantage of the interior ground floor rooms is that they have direct access on to the courtyard, and the hotel sets up tables and chairs and lawn chairs to have coffee or read right outside one's room, like a little patio.

We ate in the restaurant for dinner twice. The setting is unbelievable --- outside in the interior courtyard with metal tables placed far apart, eating while the light fades. Of the two meals, one was good and one was excellent --- ironically the simpler and less expensive menu was better. One quibble is that we discovered after visiting a local winery that the mark ups on their wine list are 250-300%, which is way out of line from our prior experience in France. We mentioned this to the hotel, but I doubt they'll change their policy.

The breakfast buffet is 20 euros. It is excellent, but it's hard to spend that much money on breakfast each day. They offer a "petit dejeuner Parisien," coffee, juice, pastries, for 7 euro a person, and we opted for that for the most part.

St. Remy is a great little town. It's close enough to walk, and there are back roads to use. Avignon and Arles are both just 30 minutes or so away, making this an overall great location for exploring the region.

For 2 nights were were transported back in time at the Chateau de Roussan. From the moment we pulled our car up they were immediately there to spoil us. The car was put in the parking lot, luggage taken to our room, and key put on the hotel booklets all behind the scenes. The location is perfect, the garden is simple, natural, and you just want to stroll around the property. The room was beautiful, bathroom modern, and bed comfortable with white crisp linens. The staff is so accommodating with smiles on their faces all the time and so willing to do anything for you. Do stay here - it's the best place in all of France. You will never want to leave.

Only the XIIIth century could offer such a charming mansion, only 2km away from Saint‐Rémy de Provence.
