“Excellent couscous and welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

This was a delightful place with a warm welcome and fantastic couscous. No surprise it does not appeal to over fastidious Americans but if you want some of the best couscous and broth ever, and a place where you feel completely welcome, this is it. Had excellent and reasonable Algerian wine too.

“Delicious and fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Decor is kitschy in the extreme, but food is delicious, comes in heaping servings (don't order an appetizer! you will not need it!) and the service is casual, genuine and friendly if not exactly refined. Your waiter says what is on his mind. Fortunately for you, what he seems to care about is dishing out huge helpings of terrific food and also saying hello to all the passerby (he seems to know everyone in the neighborhood). Highly recommend to those looking for a filling and delicious meal.

“C'est Tres Bon! ABSOLUTELY ROCKS!!! Must Eat Here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

Visited this restaurat following previous reviews for Marseille, we were definitely not disappointed. The meals were massive, no need for entree or desert. Wait staff super friendly, cost was very reasonable. 2 main course cous cous with meat, 2 beers, 2 wines for less than €60.!!! Loved it.

“An experience in itself”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2012

First, I am a fairly good cook, and I do know how to make a couscous.
This is only place in Marseille (I know of) where their couscous beats mine, by far.
It is a berber couscous (from the Algerian plateau). Berbers are not arab, they are from aryan, former christian, origin, and their food is different.
Their coucous is made with barley (orge in French). And their fish one (the best) is made with grouper.
It is more expensive than in most places, but the owner buys the products himself (vegetables directly to farmers), and it takes a long time to make this couscous.
It is not cheap (around 20 euros), but top.
As long as you room left, you'll get couscous and vegetables at will.

That's for the food.
Now, the owner.
Don't expect a waiter like in the US. He looks like he does not care whether he has customers or not. btw, if there is no one at 8 pm there, it is because it is too early for Marseille!
try to go there after 10 ...

But if you can speak French, the owner (fourth generation for this old restaurant) will tell you great stories. He has a really weird kind sense of humor, but you have a great experience if you play his game. Just attract his attention, and you'll see.
But it is totally at odds with an american type

“good good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

The restaurant is good. The food is average quality and people are very kind. The prece is ok. For a cous cous with lamb you can spend aroung 18€... The quality of the meat is not excellent but the cous cous and the soup with vegetables are very good... The owner is smiling and speaks not only French... The mint tea helps to digest the huge quantity of cous cous that you can eat...
