My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon in November 2012 for 3 nights. We started our trip off with 4 nights in Paris and were absolutely exhausted by the time we made it to Marseille. We found Paris to be beautiful, but stressful – we had a very nice hotel there as well but it was about ¼ the size of our room at the Sofitel and more expensive. The location is great for views – but the walk to the port gets a little long if you have to make it multiple times a day – especially if you need to get to the other side, which is part of the reason I did not give 5 stars. This is just the way Marseille is set up though – so if you want to be right where the action is, stay someone closer to the harbor without the views.
This hotel has “American” sized rooms. We had a BEAUTIFUL view of the port. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the shower was luxurious (with multiple shower heads) and the room was very modern and tastefully decorated. We had all the hotel perks; bathrobes, slippers, shower caps, lotions, shampoos, a way to make our own coffee in room, etc We arrived in Marseille on a Sunday, a lot restaurants in town were closed, so we had to order room service for dinner. The hotel restaurant was way out of our budget. The food you can get for room service is only O.K. This is why I did not give 5 stars. I ordered pasta, and it was like a very bland macaroni and cheese. Then again I should have known better, from my experience France does not do pasta well. The room service club sandwich is the best deal at 23 Euro – is a big sandwich that can be shared and made an excellent lunch on an afternoon we did not want to venture out into the rain (because the restaurants in town were so far away). We ventured up to the restaurant on the top level with beautiful harbor views for a glass of wine and dessert one evening. The staff looked at us like we were from another planet for not ordering a full meal, but at 100 Euro for 2 glasses of wine and a shared dessert, it’s all we could afford.
We also made our way down to the spa, hoping to find a hot tub. There was not a hot tub, but there was a semi warm tub, and a warm pool. There were steam rooms and saunas as well. It was a beautiful spa, very nice to have on hand for the guests.
Overall, it was a great experience. Marseille in general was the perfect place to end our honeymoon. Much more low key then Paris and stunning, an absolutely stunning city. La Sofitel Vieux-Port was the perfect place to recuperate from Paris and enjoy being newlyweds.
Ask for harbor views.

We sincerely thank you for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor. First of all, all the team of Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port would like to congratulate you for your weeding.
About your stay in our Hotel, we are deeply sorry that we were not able to offer you a pleasant step in Marseille as it can be.
For your next visit, we want to inform you that there are lots of public transports making the link between the harbour and the Hotel. You can take an electric bus at the cost of 0.50€ which is leaving in front of the Hotel, making the tour of the harbour up to the MUCEM (at the opposite of the Vieux Port). You also have the normal buses like the 83 or taxis. The way to go to the Port, by walking is around 10 to 15 minutes.
We are glad that after the stress that Paris caused you, you had the chance to relax in your room enjoying the ballet of boats going in and out of the old harbour of Marseille… As we like to say, the Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port has got one of the prettiest view of the Vieux Port, so we are really happy that you had the chance to enjoy it for your honeymoon. Besides, the SoSPA is offering a lot of amenities as a steam room, a sauna, massages rooms, a bathing tub etc. but it is true that we do not have a hot tub.
We are also sorry that the room service did not reach your expectations, it used to be known as a really gastronomic cuisine. At the restaurant of the seventh floor, Les Trois Forts which is a famous restaurant, the prices are relative to the quality of the products used. If you want to enjoy good cuisine at more affordable prices the Sofitel offers you the bar Le Carré which is located on the level of the reception with a beautiful view on the harbour.
Hoping to welcome you again soon for a new trip in the south of France,
Gersende GUEIT, Quality Manager
