“Pretty much perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2010

I can find no fault with this gorgeous hotel with expansive views of the sea, impeccable rooms, and helpful staff. The decor is very modern, the lobby is architecture at its best. The hotel is walking distance to the local 'restaurant row', but far enough that noise is not an issue. I wanted for nothing. If you're headed to the coast of Marseille, you've found your best choice. Impressive property, and you'll be well taken care of.

We have stayed at this hotel twice a year for the past 5 years and the front desk and concierge staff have always been very helpful. During our last stay I went to the concierge desk to ask for help as I had bought a pair of shoes and thought I had been overcharged and I wanted help in calling the shop (as I do not speak French) to see if that was the case. There was no one at the concierge desk so I asked the reception staff and they were very willing in assisting me and called the shop for me without any hesitation.

All the staff at this hotel are very friendly, it is one of the reasons we want to return each year.

Stayed 3 nights for a conference over unusually warm period in sept - ate most meals outside which was lovely - most were of above average standard, with touches of exceptional. The reception area has a wow factor for views and the ocean facing rooms also have excellent views. The property looks like its had a makeover and the overall impression is favourable with some interesting architectural features, design and furnishings. It is a large, initially confusing, layout, and in all its contemporary functionality it lacks a warm welcome and hospitality that is the real measure. Views from ‘Ocean view’ rooms stunning over bay and out to island with chateau d’if – and sounds of waves lapping below balcony. Bed stunning – felt like sleeping on a cloud ! pool good for laps but v. cold. Fitness room adequate. Breakfast buffet very good and lovely staff. Library/media space has excellent collection of photographic & design books. Bus 83 at front door is a great way to get to and from Marseille city with great coastal views en route.

First, I would recommend this hotel. The rooms are clean, and the beds are extraordinarlity comfortable. Very luxurious. The pool is gorgeous (salt water, which I liked) and Sebastian at the front desk was very helpful. I would say it could be more flexible, esp for families with young children (no eating in the bar area, no taking snacks out to the patio. etc). There seemed to be a lot of rules! I even saw them tell a family to leave the bar area because they had taken out "unsanctioned" snacks...for their kids! It is also very expensive to eat here-- not bad when it's a couple and it's dinner but when it's lunch and a three year old has to order a lunch that costs $25...it's a bit much!

This is a lovely property. Although a bit far from the Vieux Port area / central Marseille, the location is lovely with most of the property offering beautiful views of the ocean and nearby cliffs. The rooms, poolside, and F&B facilities are also very attractive and comfortable. It is also very nice that they have free wi-fi and a gratis business center with computers and printing facilities.

Unfortunately, the big negative with this property is that the front desk and concierge staff are the pits.

The people working the front desk when we visited were very unfriendly. They behaved as if it was an inconvenience that we arrived and they were very unfriendly about the entire check in process. In addition, the front desk / reception staff also seemed to operate according to very strict job descriptions and a non-transparent internal hotel hierarchy. If you ask the wrong question to the wrong person, expect a sneer and then to wait until the appropriate person becomes available (regardless of how easy the question might be or how long you will have to wait for the "right" person to appear).

We also had issues with the concierge. We left our credit card details (and a handsome tip) with the concierge so that he could follow-up with a shipping request. Although he had promised to contact us with the specifics on the cost before making the actual shipment, he shipped without our permission at an exorbitant cost of more than 700 Euro (for something that would have been much less expensive if he had not chosen the hotel's "preferred" vendor).

I'd love to love this place because it is a very attractive escape from Central Marseille; however, the front desk and concierge staff are terrible and clearly view having guests as an inconvenience.

My suggestion: scout out another property or plan to have a few roses poolside to offset the bad experiences you will have in the main lobby.

There's no doubt that this hotel hasn't yet made the full transition from a corporate stop over to chic tourist hotel. It does need a bit of money spending on the decor to do it full justice and parts of the hotel are very 'grey'. The lovely position of the hotel more than makes up for the uninspiring interior, it is right on the sea next to a yacht/sailing club with views out to the little islands of the coast of Marseille. At this point I should mention that the pool area is great for people watching and the cheerful, attentive staff are always on hand to bring drinks/towels etc. The reception staff were also very helpful and speak some english should you find that your Franglais is not being fully understood! It is not the cheapest hotel and breakfast though good, is expensive and in my opinion should be included in the price. The hotel is about a 10 minute drive into the city so bear in mind you may need to hire a car as taxis aren't cheap. Marseille, by the way was wonderful, although I'd been warned that it can be dangerous and there's a lot of crime, we found it to be a beautiful, charming, friendly, bustling port city, just apply common sense to valuables etc as you would anywhere these days.
