“Unpleasant area, impersonal hotel in a cheerless building with dreary corridors”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

Located right behind the train station in a very unattractive street.
Positive: Large rooms, sufficient toiletries, bathrobes, combi-oven in the kitchenette, supermarkets nearby, near the train station & buses.
Negative: Street is full with parked cars, so parking very difficult if not impossible. Impersonal reception, cheerless building and dreary corridors. They make you pay for the room upon arrival. Very hot rooms (in November), temperature control didn't seem to work. Open shower in the bathroom, so everything gets wet. Ceiling panel in the bathroom was loose, so there was a big gap in the ceiling. Basic small kitchen block where a lot was missing: no washing up liquid, sponge, scissors, wooden spoons (or anything else to stir with), lid from the microwave cooking bowl was missing, glass coffeepot in the coffee maker was missing (so it cannot be used) etc. When you check out, you have to take out all your litter yourself and put it outside the hotel in the garbage container! Make sure you clean the kitchen block well, or they’ll make you pay extra (debit your credit card). I took a photo as a proof that we did our homework properly!
We paid about 96 EUR (no breakfast), so it's no good value. There's nothing terribly wrong, but I would certainly never go again.

As previously said the area is not amazing but the location (for transport) is perfect, the hotel is clean and warm and the staff are extremely helpful. I needed a plug adaptor and they found me one within seconds. Would certainly go back there.

I appreciate my room was really clean. The area, where the hotel is situated, does not look very nice, but the hotel is very good. I would reccomend it to people, who travel from other parts of France to the airport of Marseille. It is very close to the bus, rail-way station and also to the airport's transfer. Even if it is near to the rail-way I slept well and I did not mind the trains.or the station. I am sure I would stay there again.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the Citea and couldn't praise it highly enough

Pros:

- excellent location 5 minute walk to main station and bus stations ( in same building) and 20 minute walk to the city and harbor. There is also a supermarket nearby.
- room was modern, near new, spacious and clean and had a nice well equipped kitchenette with fridge and freezer ( a rarity in hotels we have stayed at but very useful)
- good sized wardrobe, work desk, very comfortable beds, block out curtains, FREE WIFI and plenty of room to store our two suitcases
- double glazed windows meant room was really quiet even though we looked out over the railway lines
- bath room was well appointed and had a great shower and bath with good pressure and plenty of hot water
- lifts
- breakfast is available but we didn't have any so can't comment

Cons:

- No safety deposit box
- surrounding area is nothing to write home about, but safe and compensated for by closeness to station
- no sponge or detergent in the kitchenette. Others have also commented on this and when I mentioned it when checking out the receptionist said I should have told them as both are available on request. I'm not sure why it isn't provided in the room to begin with or a sign provided above the sink to say available from reception

A large, new, characterless building about a hundred yards from the station, with rooms with kitchen areas, which would be useful for someone staying for several days. I was only there for one night, and the main thing was that the hotel was near the station. All a bit impersonal, but suited me fine. Efficient staff.

If you're going to stay there,. it's best to print out a street map showing the hotel, as no-one on the station knows where the Rue Honnorat is. (Go out of the bus station exit, then keep straight on beside the railway track.)

The room was really modern and clean with cooking facilities (stove/utensils etc.)
TV in the lounge and in the room along with wired internet access.

The bathroom was very big (for European standard) and a hot towel rack was also available. No hairdryer though. Not enough mirror around the room (except in the bathroom)

It is around 5-10 minutes walk from the train station/metro so its really easy to travel around Marseille. Remember to purchase a 'carte journee' which allows you to use the metro/bus/tram for unlimited journey (Purchase from the metro station in St Charles)

We were in Marsaille for a short time. We arrived on a Wednesday evening and leaving Thursday evening. The hotel was about a 5 min walk to the train station, and close to the metro for us to get around. The room was a reasonable rate and very clean. I would recommend this French chain for any travel in France.
