“Nice grounds but too expensive for what it is”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2012

We had a pleasant stay in this hotel although really felt that it was completely overpriced (even bearing in mind where we were in Provence). It is a 15 min walk into town for a good walker so clearly on the outskirts and you have to walk along the main road for about half the time (so not particularly safe at dark). Our room was nice but we paid EUR 142 for 1 one night and thankfully got upgraded because the room we were upgraded to seemed about the minimum standard we would have expected in terms of size etc.... No bath - just shower cubicle and 2 people couldn't be in bathroom at same time. What shocked us most was the additional cost of breakfast EUR16 per person for a pretty standard offering (bread, yoghurt, coffee or tea)!

Previous reviews do not do justice for this place, at least not according to our experience.

We stayed for 2 nights recently. Arrived late evening and had a warm reception. The hotel looks great, set in lovely gardens. Rooms are fine, spotless clean, simply but tastefully decorated, we had a nice view of the gardens from the window our comfort room.

(Room tip:the "garden" rooms on the lower level have nicer little terraces but the rooms seem to only get light through the doors. Comfort rooms are probably lighter.)

Our room had a small outside terrace but the setting out there is a bit claustrofobic as the other row of rooms opposite are only about 10 metres across so the little terrace (call it more a small plastic table with two chairs next to our door) are not very inviting to sit out there, feels overlooked. The terraces with the garden rooms seem to offer more privacy.

The ladies at reception were really friendly and helpful with recommending and booking restaurants for us, booking taxies, (if we did not fancy the walk up to the village) and provided maps to the walking route up to the village. Even offered us torches for the evening walk back.
The breakfast was adequate, the usual simple continental fare of pastries, yoghurts etc.Again service very friendly, and loved the dining room's furnishing and the whole decor of the communal ares. Wifi was available.
We had the option to take our breakfast outside on the tables overlooking the garden, but we had a spell of cool weather so did not do that, still it was a nice offer.
The pool looked beautiful, again as the weather was not great we did not actually swim but looked really inviting and of a decent size.
Car parking place was plenty and free.
Overall a very pleasant stay, would stay again if travelling in the region.

Room Tip: Comfort rooms have windows, but the terraces are small and overlooked. Garden rooms have not got a...

We found this place driving through Provence last summer on the way up to Gordes. We paid around €130 for one night in mid-June I think. Felt it was a touch pricey, and its a decent walk to Gordes. On the plus side this means it has a lovely quiet, peaceful atmos, especially with lots of tree-lined paths. Rooms were nice with their own little terrace and it has a good, clean pool. Staff were friendly - accommodating my feeble French efforts with a smile. Breakfast was good but nothing special, but made totally worthwhile by eating it in the morning sun outside on the terrace.

Hotel La Gordos was our last stay in Provence. The setting was very nice and the room adequate size, but none of the places we stayed at were large. The room was clean, the shower was terrific (sunflower head) especially after a long day of walking and hiking.
It is out of town but a quick 3-5 minute ride will get you in the middle of town.
I did think the breakfast that came with the room was not as good as others we experienced, but it was adequate.

The other reviews are way too harsh.

Not much help from staff and nothing particularly special about this place at all. Felt a bit overpriced for this reason. Breakfast not worth the cost. We had a garden room which actually did have a nice area to sit outside. Out of town so I'd say a car is required. Bed was two singles pushed together with a blanket to keep them together. Not a great sleep here for me.

Altogether forgettable.

The receptionist was not very friendly, but the room was very comfortable and decorated in an understated Provencal style. Most of the rooms open off a little garden, which is slightly overgrown, but very pretty. The pool looked very nice but we didn't use it as we arrived too late. There is free wi-fi. The breakfast was very expensive and we didn't get it.

Pleasant enough hotel, but outside the town, so it is a hike into the sights. Nice pool and courtyard outside rooms.
