“One of my favorite towns in the South of France”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2007

Villefranche is a magical town only a few minutes by car, train or bus from Nice. So close, yet so far - a small town with excellent restaurants and architecture. Even though cruise ships often stop here, and celebrity yachts, the town retains a small town character, particularly early morning and later in the evening when tourists depart. It's a nice base for exploring Nice, Antibes, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Menton, and crossing the border to the Italian Riviera.

“Very nice city between Nice and Monaco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2006

If you are traveling to the south of france, dont miss Villefrance. It is a small town with beautiful scenary. The building are rich in color. You can sit outside of a cafe and eat, without too many people. It is touristy, but not as touristy as the bigger cities in the south. You can take a train ride or drive. If you drive, stop and see Eze just down the road. There are 2 great places to see if you are traveling from Nice to Monaco.
The south of france is becoming so spoiled with tourist shops, crowds, etc. These 2 towns are still very nice places to see.

“It's only money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2004

3 years ago we stepped off a cruise ship at the picturesque harbour of Villefranche-sur-Mer. We loved it's quiant streets and beautiful villas and abundance of flowers. So this year we decided to take a rare opportunity to spend a weeks vacation in this idyllic village. We picked a poorly located hotel - not possible to walk into the centre - however this did not detract from the beauty of the village or the magnificent views of the bay. A truly stunning bay. We thought the restaurants were very overpriced and the general quality of food was poor. In some restuarants we found the service appallingly slow. The general demeanour of this location was in the main acceptable however we would not choose to return.

“Cote d'Azur train line”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2003

Villefranche-sur-Mer extends along the coast. It includes an active Naval base but also a town harbor and shingle beach. We stayed in a busy hotel on the highway. We used the Cote d'Azur train line to move easily between towns from Menton to Antibes. Be careful, pickpockets are in full force! On the other hand, we did not need to struggle thru endless August traffic delays and the lack of parking.
