Description: « Agapes », feminine plural noun: "feast among friends"Les Agapes is first and for most a kid's dream, Jean-Philippe Douroux's dream. With a cooking and pastry training background, he makes his dream come true at 28 years old, becoming chef of his own restaurant. Located in Vence (France), in the heart of the historical city, is where this passionate about cooking has settled. In his plates, a subtle mix of tradition and innovation. From the appetizer to the dessert, here no dishes are served without quality products, fresh and seasonal. On the menu: two varied and inventive menus but the chef also offers a board with more choices, inspired by the daily market products.Good... and beautiful, Jean-Philippe's dishes present on a platter the pleasure of taste buds but also pleasure for the eyes. In the winter, it is a « cocooning » ambiance: meet up on the first floor in a cosy dining room for 30 guests. Intimate ambiance guaranteed, in a beautiful, chic, sober and inspired setting. In the summer? Gather on the sunny terrace filled with flowers for 40 guests. A relaxing break...inevitably gourmet, at the heart of a charming pedestrian area. Great outing idea: during the festival « Les nuits du Sud » (the southern nights), the chef offers a tasty stop with a special menu, preceding the concerts.Whether in the dining room or the kitchen, Les Agapes also means a dynamic and strong team, linked by work well done and a warm welcome. Welcome home!

“An real find !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

I can't believe I've missed this restaurant for years in old Vence, it's is probably (bar Michelin restaurants) the best food in the old quarter of Vence. The burger (15 euro) was simply delicious and the dessert medley was fantastic. The cote de province red wine went down far too easily. Everyone else loved their food which was beef or fish. My only gripe is the decor could do with some modernizing. The chef/owner of this restaurant deserve a better location and bigger premises. When you look from outside it's quite off-putting as it looks café like (we ate upstairs) but the food soon made up for that and the service was pleasantly friendly. A real 'find'.

“Favorite restaurant in Vence!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We ate at Les Agapes our first night in Vence and even jet lagged it was wonderful! Super fresh ingredients made for a fabulous meal. We had a nice regional wine that was a very good price and had some specials on the menu. There are many good restaurants in Vence but this turned out to be our favorite. I only wish we could have eaten there again!

“Quality food at a reasonable price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

Sorry , a bit late writing this as we were in Vence for a week in May 2012. Vence seemed to have so many potentially lovely restaurants to choose from, but we strolled past Les Agapes on the first day and it just seemed to draw us in. We ate the on our second night, and again on our last - too good not to go back to see what else they had!
We ate from the set menus and were suprised and delighted and the flavours, quality, freshness and presentation. SERIOUSLY good food!
We ate inside one night, and outside the other. Charming service too. We're not from a background of tipping, but we left a big tip that night!

“Best Value in Vence!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

I have a house in Vence and have tried most of the restaurants. I find that Les Agapes is best value for money. If you want to sit outdoors in the nice terrace, you should book a table because the outdoor area is not very big. Whether you order fish or meat, you van expect a very good meal. The service is generaly good, but sometimes you will have to wait longer Thon you like.

“Payed few for such a creative lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I were in Les Agapes today, such a great lunch! The food was very creative and tasteful, it's even funny to read the owner/chef apologizing for some bad evalluatios, saying he doesn't intend to have a gastro restaurant, when it's obvious that Agape is, or will be soon, a gastro restaurant. His creations work out great!
We asked the menu of the day, mine with lobster and radicchio as starter, my wife with a gourmand toast with olives tapenade. Before the starters, they served a magic roquefort and beetroot "gazpacho" (they didn't name it this way!) with a salmon quenelle as courtesy, it was a dream. And then the main dishes, shrimps (very well fried) and and aspargus risotto for her, and poultry stuffed with mushrooms and truffle with mushroom sauce, and radicchio, and ciboulette... How has it no gastronomic intention?
The deserts were also great and different, my wife as a dark chocolate bar, filled with caramel, white chocolate ice cream with almonds and hot chocolate; I had a tartelette with caramel, pears, lemon flavour...
Service was nice, but not as fast as we expected. Anyway, they deserve the highest grade.
