L'Armoise is a very small restaurant off a hidden square in the lovely town of Vence. The proprietor (formally a fishmonger!) speaks good English and is happy to describe dishes and wines.
The set menu, which is approximately €35 without wine, is great value for the freshness and quality of the food; this in turn, is very Cote d'Azur and very heavy in fish.
The special Marmite de L'armoise "surprise" is amazing, a pastry topped chowder-like dish with a rich, tomatoey sauce and a variety of fish and shellfish inside. The scallops are also quite delicious, plus you can have Bouillabaisse without having to order it days in advance. The choice of starters and desserts are also very good and the wine list is good if not massively expansive.
This is my very favourite place to eat in the region and, having eaten there three or four times now I have never been disappointed with this excellent little gem.
