“AMAZING - You will not be disappointed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2011

We booked Hotel La Victoire in Vence last minute as we were travelling without any firm itinerary. From the moment we drove into the beautiful town of Vence to the time we left, we had an incredible time.
When we walked into reception we were greeted by Natalie, who is the loveliest lady you would ever want to meet. Her English is impeccable as was her quality of service and making you feel so welcome. She was very helpful with places of interest and the easiest way to get there. Our room was beautiful, bright, clean and very comfortable.
The hotel is perfectly situated – close to the old town and surrounded by very good restaurants. As all the other glowing reviews have stated, this is the only place to stay in Vence! You will not be disappointed, we only wished that we could have stayed longer! Thank you Natalie for making our stay so memorable.

We really enjoyed our stay. Owners very helpfull and friendly and fluent in English. We had a problem with our rental car booking and they resolved it for us without any hesitation. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Our room had a great view over the 'place' opposite the hotel. Close to a great variety of restaurants closeby. Special mention must go to La Farigoule, had one of our best suppers there ever!

We stayed here for three nights in June, having selected the hotel based on other reviews. We arrived around 11:00 p.m., after driving over the mountains from Grenoble (it's long, but it's much more beautiful than the autoroute!). The night receptionist helped us with our suitcases (the elevator does not descend all the way to street level), but omitted to tell us about the discounted parking under the square facing the hotel. This meant that we paid more than necessary for the first two nights, until one of the owners explained about the hotel coupon that lowers the nightly rate.

The rooms in La Victoire are miniscule, but the beds are comfortable and the continental breakfasts are satisfactory. The owners are friendly and helpful, and you are right in the center of Vence, meters away from the old city. Street noise could be a problem for light sleepers, and the no-smoking rule in our group of rooms was not respected (we folded a towel and stuffed it under the door to keep out the stench of cigarettes).

Not a lot to add. This is the place to stay in Vence and Vence is the place to stay above Nice. Very very small rooms, very quiet at night, clean sheets every night! Good bathrooms, wonderful staff. Right next door to a great, always open, cafe brasserie for breakfast or lunch or a beer. Walk to lots of very good restaurants, after a few days, you'll wonder why you don't live here. Practical notes: Parking beneath the main square in front of the hotel is tight. outdoor parking lots nearby much easier; hotel has discount tickets for all. 2. All over the Riviera, the bus fare is 1 Euro no matter how far you go, like 1 Euro to the Nice Airport from Vence, 30 min, or to downtown Nice, or to Cannes or to Menton, as long as you keep moving forward. Your ticket is good for 72 hours. greatest bargain I've seen. Bus to St Paul de Vence, town packed with tourists, see the Maight Foundation collection, worth the whole visit, walk the town, then bus back to Vence, 3 miles, quiet, almost no tourists. Little wine, piece of cheese, perhaps a nap? Seriously, think of coming here without a car, ours stayed in the parking and was never touched.

The friendly and helpful owners made our stay very nice. The room was redecorated and everything was immaculate. There is a lift from the first floor and it was also very helpful to have a computer available for guest use, not something consistently found when traveling. The one drawback is that there is not a drop off area in front of the hotel, even for a few minutes. The underground parking garage is across the square, and it would be helpful to check out directions ahead of time. Breakfast was the most minimal we found in all our 25 days in France for the 8 euro cost, so I'd recommend just going around the corner for 5 euros.

Fine location. Sound isolating windows - and the big square is actually very quit in the evening. Big parking under the square. If you take the car out every day you can with the help from the hotel park very cheaply. Not very costly for 24 hour parking (10 € or so)

VERY nice and helpful young couple that runs the hotel. Seemed to speak fine English for those that need that. Nathalie also runs a tourist agency/local guide business for those that need. guess she will be a fine guide
Rooms small - even by European standad, Very "modern" furnitures (no chairs). Lift from reception a 1st floor and up.
Breakfast was extra as often in France - and only "French style": a small piece of fresh bread, a croissant, jam, juice, corn flakes if you want, orange juice, coffee - and thats it.

Internet was of course free - and worked reasonably well

Can only agree with all the positives. Super people, almost boutique hotel at a reasonable price, great position, gorgeous old town, good restaurants and brasseries close by and so on. At last! A French Hotel shower that delivers, while leaving both hands free! La Victoire offers everything you need if you don't want the anodyne 5-star experience. But thank goodness for the double glazing: the town is almost silent from 11.30 apart from a group of youths who gather below, smoking hookahs and laughing and talking at the tops of their voices until 2pm (well, it is one of the nicest spots in town, so they choose it too). But wouldn't change a thing, except perhaps for the colour of the bathroom suite (orange!) - and the coffee-machine (I expect REAL coffee in France, not instantanee!). Nathalie and Pierre were charming helpful hosts par excellence and we hope to see them again. We'll just have continental breakfast at one of the street cafes instead!
