I have been traveling to the Cote d'Azur since 2000 while my husband attends a convention in the fall. One of my favorite day trips is to St. Paul de Vence, and I always eat at La Sierra. From the raised terrace, you look out over a lush valley spotted with homes, villas, and even, a greenhouse, and you get a glimpse of the ocean. It's truly one of my favorite views from any of our trips. There is a serenity and tranquility that I enjoy when I'm in this location, and several friends who have traveled with me say the same thing.
I am in St. Paul in the off season, and the restaurant often offers a limited or abbreviated menu. I've never been disappointed and the menu selection has been varied. For several years, it was a wood fired pizza, on another trip, it was one of the best quiche and salad plates I've had, and this year, it was a wonderful dinner salad. Each year I think that I'll be regretful that that I'm not getting what I enjoyed the year before, but I'm not. It has all been enjoyable in this lovely setting.
La Sierra is on the front side of St. Paul de Vence. To get there, take the path that is to your right just before you get to the arched entrance to the village. You will see a Provence souvenir shop and a market where the path takes a turn. You will pass Choissy's studio, and La Sierra is several doors down from there. The building looks a bit like a chalet and the dining deck is elevated. From the restaurant, you can continue toward the back of the village and enter from there. You will see and elevated viewing point in this area. From here, the walk through the village is uphill for a bit, but it's downhill most of the way. I prefer this longer downhill walk vs. the longer uphill route from the front of the village.
