“Old hill town perfection in Provence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

Last week we visited St. Paul de Vence for the 3rd time. The others were in 1979 and 2013. This little ancient hilltop town is one of the most enchanting places we have ever visited in 40 years of travel. It does have an abundance of art galleries but they are so subtly placed in the historic buildings they don't distract from the atmosphere. They do offer very high quality art, too. If you wander off the main Rue you will be in the quiet residential walkways or on the ramparts viewing the surrounding countryside. Also, you will find some lovely little restaurants on and off the beaten track that are very good. A most beautiful vielle ville makes for a wonderful day.

“A must see while on the Riviera”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

Saint Paul de Vence is a charming fortified village in Provence filled with art galleries, boutiques and sidewalk cafes.

The village was a border stronghold in 1388, an artists colony in the1920s and a spectacular film set in the 1950s.

They say the village receives around 2.5 million visitors a year but when we were in the village yesterday there were very few people wandering the streets. However, I do suggest arriving at the village as early as possible as we noticed the number of tourist greatly increased as the day progressed. We found two hours long enough in the village.

We traveled to Saint Paul de Vence from Cannes by local 200 bus and then by the number 400 local bus up to the village. For our return journey we used the train along the coast back to Cannes. 15 minutes by a fairly empty train for 3.4 euros Seniors rate, 45 minutes by crowded bus for 1.5 Euros. If travelling by public transport the important point to know is that both the 200 bus and train stops are opposite one another. When exiting the bus at stop 'Square du 8 ma'i at 'Cagnes St Mare' cross directly over the road and head north towards Nice for several hundred meters crossing the motorway bridge. Once over the motorway bridge the 400 bus stop will be directly ahead of you.

For a good long-distance phot shot of the village walk about 100 meters back down the hill from the number 400 bus stop at Saint Paul.

“What is not to love about the south of France?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

If you are visiting Nice or the French Riviera, take the time for a day trip to St. Paul de Vence. It's a charming drive to a medieval village that is delightful to all of the senses. If you want to tour the perfume centers, drive on to Grasse for a further sensual delight. A nice lunch, good wine, beautiful scenery....who cares if you don't speak French! You'll love it! It's nice to get a different perspective that what you'll experience on the coast.

“Stunning, romantic village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

I always enjoy wandering around the cobbled streets of this beautiful village, admiring its spectacular views and popping in and out of its many art galleries. I would definitely recommend visiting Saint-Paul de Vence.
