“Very nice stay in Ste Maxime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

We had a pleasant 2 night stay in this hotel and would stay there again. The location is great, close to everything but still quiet. Room was nicely appointed, clean and comfortable (including the sofa bed). The tiny kitchenette had everything we needed for preparing light meals. Virginie and Alexandra were friendly hosts and gave excellent recommendations for restaurants and activities. You can tell the thoughtfulness Virginie put into every detail. We wish we had stayed longer.

Stayed here for the last 3 nights and can find no fault. The room was superb with the most lovely decor and everything has been thought of and put in with the most elegant taste. Breakfast was so fresh, lovely and more than adequate and we loved sitting in the beautiful garden.
The hotel is so well situated, yes a little difficult to find but if you download directions, they are very accurate. Many thanks to virginie, who was such a kind, gentle host. We followed her recommendations for dinner and they were spot on. Do not hesitate to visit here, if you can secure a booking.

Room Tip: I expect all rooms are of the same excellent quality.

We stayed in the Hotel for 4 Nights, excellent service, nice staff and owner. nice renovated rooms, very friendly staff and a very good breakfast made our stay wonderful. We definitely will come back to Hotel Royal Bon Repose, if we come in the region again. The hotel is located in the nice center of st.maxime, 2 Minutes to the ferry-ship to st.tropez.

We spent a week in june 2014 in the Royal Bon Repos and that was a very pleasant stay.
The hotel is recently totally renovated and has good rooms with stylish decoration.
A very strong point is its location, right in the centre of Ste. Maxime so the car can stay in the private and closed parking of the hotel.
The hotel does not have a restaurant but that is no disadvantage at all because there are a couple of Ste. Maxime's best restaurants a few steps away, like the Amiral ,or le Hermitage.
Breakfest is normally taken in the garden of the hotel
The only drawback is there is no lift because this is an "old" building.
The service is pleasant and personal; the lady-owner is almost always present.
Safety is top with fingerprint controlled access.

I am a very positive person, who likes to find the good in every situation. However, this was NOT good, at ALL. Let me first begin by saying that we selected this "B and B" because of previous reviewers saying how good it was, generally tripadvisor is spot on. Let me explain my issues with this place. First, we were given the very first room next to the lobby, so any conversation that was had at any time of the day, we were able to listen to, this is not pleasant when on vacation. Second, the security/key system is the weirdest thing of all time; they attempt to be modern by using finger prints to get into the hotel. However, there is no attendant on duty for much of the day/night, and you are required to leave your key behind the checkin desk, so anyone could essentially grab your key and get into your room because they know when you are gone or not. Third, although the room was spacious, there were stains on the walls and everything was electronic, so any time you walked throughout the room, certain lights turned on and off, regardless of whether you wanted them to or not, thats pretty annoying to me. BUT, these are just basic issues as I move towards my real problem....THE OWNER.

Now I have met some difficult people in my day, but this women, Virginie was the worst, about as fake as can be. My buddy and I came to her with a list of VERY basic tasks for her (considering she serves as the concierge, that is her job) and she not only was unable to accomplish any of them, but was blatantly dishonest and unhelpful to us. We presumed it was because we were American, but that is not it, she was upset that we had no interest in being in Saint Maxime, we wanted to do activities in Saint Tropez. She talked down to us as if we werent worthy of traveling to a chicer more upscale beach town that Sainte Maxime. So, in our 24 hour stint at this dump, she could not make us even one reservation. Then, wisely, we knew she was being dishonest to us, so we called ourselves and made the plans on our own later. The place told us that she had never even called them in the first place. All we wanted to do was jetski, and she claimed "it is not possible without a boating lesson," this also a fabrication. I could go on but its worthless. Let this be a warning to first, not waste the time in Saint Maxime because theres nothing going on and second, if you do have to come here because St. Tropez was all booked (our problem), then it is my recommendation that you make alternate plans. Feel free to reach out if you'd like more information. Bueno Suerte.

Room Tip: Certainly away from the lobby.

After a short one hr drive from the Nice airport, Virginie met us at the door of the hotel, perfectly located in the older part of Ste Maxime. Views of the Gulf of St Tropez, lovely room, delightful breakfast and an easy stroll to the restaurants and shops. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Virginie gave us spot on recommendations not only for the immediate area but also for the rest of Provence. We heartily recommend the Hotel Royal Bon Repos. Peter and Liz Herreid

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel.
Positives:
- Very clean, no faults there
- Quiet at night, and although there is a church very closeby, once you close the main windows, the noise is completely blocked out.
- It has an option for a little kitchenette, so if you are a late riser or enjoy having your breakfast/lunch at your own pace, I recommend getting the kitchenette option for additional 20 Euros per night upon your arrival. It is small but well equipped and sufficient for said purposes. This is especially crucial if you want to eat in the room, which is otherwise not allowed, as we have been told.
- The owner is very nice and accommodating.
- The bed is sufficiently big and comfortable, despite being a hard mattress.
- Room is bigger than I expected and well decorated.

A few negatives:
- My main complaint was the paper thin walls. Even by hotel standards, the walls are exceptionally thin and you can hear other ppl going on about their business very clearly, including things best not heard. Luckily the guests are high profile and usually very quiet at night.
- The internet is a bit slow, but I dont know if it was so on ipads only or in general.
- (In relation of the first negative point above) The daily cleaning starts at the usual hour of 8-9 am, however I am a late sleeper and the paper thin walls made it impossible for me to sleep through the cleaning noises from other rooms.

Overall, if you are not a late riser and a light sleeper like I am, this hotel is indeed a little gem in comparison to most hotels in Cote D'azur.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so take the first floor if you dont want to climb up all the stairs everyday...
