Owner description: It took Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the most original women on the French Riviera, seven years to build one of the most beautiful sites on the Côte d’Azur. An enlightened art enthusiast who travelled back and forth across France and Europe, Béatrice de Rothschild built up an incomparable and eclectic collection of masterpieces: priceless Sèvres and Vincennes porcelain, works by Fragonard, paintings by the masters (Boucher, Carpaccio, Tiepolo, etc.), Louis XVI furniture, and so on.

“Truly not to be missed if you like gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

Of course the Villa is worth it...is beautiful and very grand.....but the best part are the gardens (indeed if you like gardens). The variety of plants, how they are displayed and how they take care of them is admirable. We spend almost 3 hours walking around and admiring the different garden settings. We enjoyed so much that we decided to take a visit at the villa Kerylos as well (ask for the combined ticket, is cheaper and is definitely worth it :-)

“Great start to a perfect day trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Take the #81 bus from Nice Le Porte to Passable bus stop. Beautiful short ride. The villa is spectacular and beautifully presented with a great audio tour. Buy the combination ticket and go to the Kyrelos villa at the end of the day.

Walk down to St. Jean for lunch on the harbor. After lunch follow the road following the water and go down the stairs at the beach. Walk the trail around the point ... you can exit at the park or continue all the way out around the lighthouse, but you will be on the wrong side of the Cap for Kyrelos if you do.

We walked along the water from the park to Kyrelos in about a half hour. This villa is also worth your time to visit. The #81 bus stops on the right as you exit the Kyrelos driveway. (Eiffel's house is on the same driveway.)

A great day if you like to walk.

“Loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

We used the bus service #81 from Nice and got there in about 30 minutes, got off at Passable and walked to the villa in about 5 minutes. The villa is extremely beautiful located on a very beautiful hill and surrounded by a very beautiful garden, which reminded a bit me more or less a botanic garden. Plenty of places to hide from the crowd, plenty of beautiful silhouettes and landscapes to take excellent photos. Great getaway from Nice - highly recommended!

The only minus is that gardens are not easily walkable with strollers.

“Beautiful afternoon excursion - French Riviera”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Our visit to Musee Ephrussi de Rothschild far exceeded any of our expectations (we were a group of 9) when we hiked over to St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat from our lovely villa in Villefranche Sur Mer. After learning about Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild and touring her beautiful villa, we opted to enjoy lunch in the Tea Room which was most lovely. The setting was exquisite, food/beverage perfect for lunch, complete with attentive service (which was most accommodating to Americans not fluent in French!) The real treat came after lunch when we toured the gardens and enjoyed the beautiful fountains display set to classical music. Absolutely stunning; such a perfect way to spend our day! For those who still had energy for a walk back to Villefranche, they took a route along the shoreline that opened up incredible vistas of the Mediterranean.

“Fa-bu-lous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

An absolutely beautiful place to visit while in the area. The House, a palazzo, is splendid, well decorated, with stunning pieces of China, paintings, rugs, tapestries, furniture. The audio guide is well worth having. It is very clear, very interesting as it describes each room with its contents in great details and gives you informations about the Rotschild-Ephrussi families and life at the start of the 20th century. The beauty of the gardens matches the beauty of the house. Every corner is a corner of paradise with statues, fountains, benches, palmtrees, cypress trees. Everything has been done, created with the greatest taste. One of the most fascinating thing is the Garden a la francaise where musical fountains transport you into another world, a world of magic; water jets dancing in time to Mozart, Vivaldi music create a unique water spectacle. A visit to the tea room for a delicious snack, looking over the Bay of Villefranche, is a good way to finish a most memorable day.
