“A wonderful hotel with a superb location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

My family stayed in 2 garden/sea view rooms for 5 nights in June. We loved the bedrooms with spacious terraces and gorgeous views! The service was fabulous, with everyone being incredibly courteous and helpful. We especially appreciated Lucas who worked on the hotel's private beach. The views from the pool restaurant and terrace restaurant are breathtaking. We would definitely stay here again!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nites in June 2013. Family of 4 with older kids (13 & 19).
We arrived off a cruise ship quite early in the day. While we did not expect our room to be ready at 11:00 AM, we DID expect it to be ready by 3:00 PM. The time came & went, and we had to seek out the front desk. At that point, only one of our rooms was ready (we had booked 2 Deluxe rooms in the Orangerie; a separate 2 story building with large rooms & private patios).
When we got to the room, AC was not working. They dispatched a crew to attempt a fix, but after an hour (on a Friday at 4:00 PM) it was clear that it wasn't going to happen.
Of course, the second room we booked (an adjacent Deluxe) was not available yet because the management had given a late (4:00 PM) checkout to it's current guest. (Not sure how they could allow that as it was the only other Deluxe room and they knew we had arrived!)
We received many apologies, but no concrete offer of restitution. Our kids were tired and anxious to get into a room (after sitting at the pool for 5 hours); so they offered us a Superior category room, which was available immediately. We took it, as it was 145 euros less than the Deluxe room. Meanwhile, the guest in the other Deluxe finally vacated and we asked to be moved into that room, as the contractors were still in our room trying to fix the AC (comical at this point!) I was awakened at midnite by my children telling me that the AC in their room was not working! (Seriously??) I complained to the night manager and insisted on giving my kids a new room so they could sleep. (We eventually moved their belongings from room A to B the next morning).

We also noted that there were no "gratis" bottles of water in our room (although there were $9 small bottles of Evian for purchase in the mini-bar). At $910 per night, there should have been free water in the room on a daily basis.

The rest of our stay was uneventful. Only upon an email to our travel agent were we offered a 50% discount on our kids' room for the first night, to make up for all the inconvenience. I am not usually a complainer - but because this is a LHW (Leading Hotels of the World) property, and at the prices, these issues were completely avoidable and management-related. I was happy for the compensation, but note that it was not offered until my travel agent intervened on our behalf.

All that aside, this is a lovely property, in a stellar location! The hotel is beautiful, with a very large pool, manicured gardens, large rooms, and a small private beach area. It is probably the best hotel in the area (besides the Grand Hotel du Cap, which is way more expensive).
The breakfast buffet (included in the rate) was served on their terrace, and featured fresh squeezed juices, cheeses, charcuterie, eggs, pancakes, bacon, cereals, fresh breads, yogurt, etc. Service at the restaurants was excellent; and served by the same staff each day.

If you stay, be sure to have a cocktail on the hotel's bar terrace and ask for Marcel. He is the quintessential French gentleman, and was an absolute joy to meet!

I would stay here again (but check that the AC is working, FIRST! LOL)

Room Tip: Book the Orangerie building if you like larger rooms with private patios. The Deluxe category does n...

Dear Reviewers,
Without prejudice
I have known and worked with Bruno Mercadal- the GM- for many years operating very high end incentive programs, car launches and luxury FIT vacations. During this time all my clients have 'raved' about the property, the seamless service, dedicated and caring staff, food and beverage, the numerous facilities and least but no means last, the highly professional 'hands on' management.
This being said, I was obviously staggered to read the long and somewhat disjointed review posted by a certain Marek M on May 31 which accused the hotel of dishonesty and fraud.
Thus I am taking this opportunity to fully support Bruno Mercadal who is, without any doubt, a person of the highest integrity who enjoys a fine international reputation both amongst his industry peers and many hundreds of satisfied clients. Consequently Marek M, I suggest you get your facts right because fortunately you are the only person who believes the outrageous accusations you posted for all to read.

Room Tip: In The Orangerie if available. If not any rooms at the back or sides of the hotel

Just returned from a 5 day stay at the Royal Riviera. It is comparable to and in fact exceeds many of the 5 star hotels I have stayed at around the world. The property is beautiful and situated on an excellent part of the French Riviera. Although we had a car and there certainly are great drives (try the Grand Corniche to Eze and Monaco), there are easy walks from the hotel to the Cape (beautiful views of the sea) and a multitude of fine restaurants. The local train station is also an easy walk and a care-free way to access Nice and Monaco.

Our room was spacious, modern and very comfortable. The pool area is excellent and the private, sandy beach a bonus. The breakfast buffet has everything you could think of (certainly more than you need) and is good value. We had one dinner at the hotel restaurant which was remarkable and the service excellent without being intrusive. Considering that we had spent 10 days in France, dining at some very fine reastaurants, this was probably our best meal. The staff at the hotel really are very friendly and accommodating. Would return to this outstanding hotel without hesitation.

What a fabulous hotel! We were upgraded to a junior suite, which was a corner room on the 4th floor. The views were not to be believed ... of the sea, the mountains ... everything. The room and bathroom were huge, beautiful and faultless in every way. Upon arrival we found a gift of beautifully wrapped chocolates and a card for my husband's birthday. The next day we received plate of beautiful chocolates in our room. The breakfast every morning out on the terrace was heavenly. We enjoyed lounging by the pool ... very low-key. Not like a crazy American hotel pool. I loved the location ... we were able to take a nice long walk, and had lovely dinners in Villefrance 2 nights and a casual dinner in Cap Ferrat one night. Stay here if you every could you will not regret it!

Part of the Leading Hotels of the World group, it has definitely earned its place- An amazing location with private beach and pool- I stayed in the Orangery which is separate to the main hotel on the other side of the pool- It is lovely and quiet with beautiful rooms- my room was a little dark as it did not get any sun but the high ceiling seem to balance this out. Breakfast on the terrace is highly recommended, great spot to see all the yachts parked up - you can walk all around the Cap from a footpath beside the hotel- watch out for Dog pooh!
All the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and excellent English. Best service I have had in Europe to date.

Room Tip: Main Hotel, pool facing has the morning and early afternoon sunshine on the balcony, and the views

We picked this hotel because of the location and positive impressions after our stay in 2012.
This year our company sent us here for over a month. Everything was organised by external travel agency- our boss wanted to be sure that we don’t have to worry about anything.

Because of some business issues we thought we might stay a little bit longer (hotel was booked with full credit guaranteed by agency’s card until the 10th April 2013), so we wrote the e-mail to the abovemantioned agency asking about possibility to stay until the 20th April. The agency answered that they checked with the Royal Riviera Hotel and it is possible. But we didn’t make any reservation. Just wanted to know if this is possible. We received the answer in the e-mail saying that our stay is booked and paid until the 10th April so on that date we checked out.

Well, we have been trying to do so- because at the reception desk they told us they will not let us go! Apparently the agency prolonged our stay without our knowledge and confirmation until the 20th and when hotel called them asking what is going on because we wanted to leave- the agency blocked the credit card that guaranteed the extended stay and hotel could not charge the penalty fee- 10 000 EUR.
The Royal Riviera staff was trying to negotiate with us and then offer 8000 EUR penalty that they wanted us to pay- otherwise they will not let us leave the hotel. Our car was bloked at the hotel parking!
We found this idea ridiculous because we had nothing to do with it so the police was called.

The police came in and after checking all documents decided that we are right- we are not the side of this transaction- we didn’t make any reservation, didn’t give any card details nor even passports so we are obviously free to go. All this situation took place in front of other hotel guest and employees and it took more than 2 hours.
Couple of hours later one of the real estate agents we are working with in French Riviera told us that he was called by one of the Royal Riviera management employee and worn by him! This person told him that we are „dodgy, we didn’t pay for our stay and he cannot trust us“. We paid in Royal Riviera over 21 000 EUR! That was so embarrassing, not to say humiliating!
All of this made us tired- we decided to pick our roof rack (full of our personal belongings- worth 5000 EUR-we left it in the hotel storage at the arrival) later because we have been expecting some delivery anyway-it was scheduled on Friday/Monday.
Since Monday 13th April we have been calling concierge couple of times a day but he always said that nothing came in. We tracked the parcel on DPD/Exapaq site and it clearly said that it has been delivered to the hotel on the 13th April at 11:19 AM. As a proof of delivery was a hotel stamp.
So we did come to the hotel asking for roof rack and package but we have been told that only manager has the key and unfortunately is his day off. So we came in two days after but manager again was absent and we have been asked to come in the afternoon. And another time- same situation. Then we came with the local policeman-but he didn't even want to hear the story, just spoke to the manager and said:"give them 8000 EUR if you want your stuff back and learn French because you're in France".
All what we found in the Royal Riviera is absurd, ridiculous, hihgly unprofessional and below any standard so that is why we make this complaint. We will obviously contact police again, make official testimony, then contact our lawyer and even embassy if the police will not help us.
The experience fell far short of our expectations - considering the great deal of money we have spent. We are so disappointed and simply shocked by this terrible service and behaviur- this is not what anyone expects for over 500 EUR per night!

It is quite unusual for us to have to reply to false allegations and we find it quite regrettable. This review is currently in the hands of the police and French Justice. Any document to prove our good faith is available by the Hotel or by our lawyer.
