We stayed here for 3 nites in June 2013. Family of 4 with older kids (13 & 19).
We arrived off a cruise ship quite early in the day. While we did not expect our room to be ready at 11:00 AM, we DID expect it to be ready by 3:00 PM. The time came & went, and we had to seek out the front desk. At that point, only one of our rooms was ready (we had booked 2 Deluxe rooms in the Orangerie; a separate 2 story building with large rooms & private patios).
When we got to the room, AC was not working. They dispatched a crew to attempt a fix, but after an hour (on a Friday at 4:00 PM) it was clear that it wasn't going to happen.
Of course, the second room we booked (an adjacent Deluxe) was not available yet because the management had given a late (4:00 PM) checkout to it's current guest. (Not sure how they could allow that as it was the only other Deluxe room and they knew we had arrived!)
We received many apologies, but no concrete offer of restitution. Our kids were tired and anxious to get into a room (after sitting at the pool for 5 hours); so they offered us a Superior category room, which was available immediately. We took it, as it was 145 euros less than the Deluxe room. Meanwhile, the guest in the other Deluxe finally vacated and we asked to be moved into that room, as the contractors were still in our room trying to fix the AC (comical at this point!) I was awakened at midnite by my children telling me that the AC in their room was not working! (Seriously??) I complained to the night manager and insisted on giving my kids a new room so they could sleep. (We eventually moved their belongings from room A to B the next morning).
We also noted that there were no "gratis" bottles of water in our room (although there were $9 small bottles of Evian for purchase in the mini-bar). At $910 per night, there should have been free water in the room on a daily basis.
The rest of our stay was uneventful. Only upon an email to our travel agent were we offered a 50% discount on our kids' room for the first night, to make up for all the inconvenience. I am not usually a complainer - but because this is a LHW (Leading Hotels of the World) property, and at the prices, these issues were completely avoidable and management-related. I was happy for the compensation, but note that it was not offered until my travel agent intervened on our behalf.
All that aside, this is a lovely property, in a stellar location! The hotel is beautiful, with a very large pool, manicured gardens, large rooms, and a small private beach area. It is probably the best hotel in the area (besides the Grand Hotel du Cap, which is way more expensive).
The breakfast buffet (included in the rate) was served on their terrace, and featured fresh squeezed juices, cheeses, charcuterie, eggs, pancakes, bacon, cereals, fresh breads, yogurt, etc. Service at the restaurants was excellent; and served by the same staff each day.
If you stay, be sure to have a cocktail on the hotel's bar terrace and ask for Marcel. He is the quintessential French gentleman, and was an absolute joy to meet!
I would stay here again (but check that the AC is working, FIRST! LOL)
Book the Orangerie building if you like larger rooms with private patios. The Deluxe category does n...
