“Haven of Peace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

A haven of peace in the lively city of Nice. You are made to feel welcome and "at home". We had an orange tree outside our room and awoke to the sound of birdsong in early November. A perfect base from which to explore the city.

Some of the advantages of this hotel are obvious and can be appreciated almost at once - the beautiful rooms, perfect service, the garden with the palm trees and the orange tree, the petit déjeuner, as generous as it is delicious, the very comfortable beds. Some other aspects will require a little more time (a few days) to be fully appreciated. Most important of all - the lovely atmosphere created by the propriétaires which makes one feel taken care of in a way that is at once relaxed, efficient, unobtrusive and friendly. The TV set is top quality - we might even have looked at a program or two if the room (quiet, calm, airy) had not been so inviting for reading the books we found in the book-shops of Nice (and the lighting by the bed is perfect for reading! - this is not always the case in a hotel room, to be sure). A few minutes' walk away there is the Promenade des Anglais, the beach, the Mediterranean and, certainly more often than not, the sun shining from the ever so blue sky (claimed by Yves Klein to be his first work of art, but available to sign for anyone who is susceptible to this powerful experience, so far from your computer in the office...). Restaurants abound, of course, but for a cineaste the proximity to Cinéma Rialto (12 minutes on foot) with the really good films shown in V.O. is even more exhilarating. Imagine all this (or anything else you would rather prefer) and add to that the marvelous feeling of having a home of your own in this charming villa from the last turn of the century - well, then you are close to feeling how it is to stay at Villa les Cygnes. And yes, we have already planned our next few trips to Nice and to our Villa les Cygnes.

We have just returned from a three-night stay at Villa Les Cygnes and would thoroughly recommend it as a great place to stay. Our hosts were perfect. Very friendly, informative and couldn't be more helpful. Our room was very spacious and absolutely spotlessly clean. All the facilites were in excellent working order. The bed was very comfortable - we slept soundly every night. We had a nice garden terrace where we could sit out and enjoy the weather. The hotel is set in a nice, quiet part of Nice but within easy walking distance to the Promenade and we had no difficulty getting anywhere we wanted to go. Buses are very close to hand for trips further afield and to get to and from the airport. The train station is fairly close, too. For anyone looking for a good place to stay where you will be made to feel very welcome and comfortable this is the place to stay. Thank you for making our holiday so enjoyable.

We stayed two nights in this lovely villa which is in a quiet residential area within a stone throw of the Beaux Arts museum. We were very appreciative of a reserved parking spot which is not easy to come by in Nice. The hotel owners did all they could to make us feel welcome, and we loved the spacious room with a real terrace. The modern bathroom was twice the size of any other we had anywhere in Europe. The walk to the promenade is very easy - but to get to the old city takes about 20 minutes on foot. We used our car, and found all VERY convenient. Anytime you are in a big city there is a tradeoff and we loved being in a quieter section and away from the masses of tourists. We would definitely return -

Room Tip: ground floor rooms have WONDERFUL large patio

This is not a hotel, rather a bed and bath, and even then lacks some of the facilities and comforts normally associated. It is in a nice enough residential neighborhood, but access to anywhere a tourist normally would want to go, including the old city, requires walking to the bus stop and taking it from there (taxis are very expensive in Nice, and would have to be called). So if you do not have a car, it is a problem. Very limited restaurants or shops within walking distance, and by walking distance I mean a good kilometer or more down hill and then back up hill. Getting to good restaurants or attractions requires transport. The beach (not that the beach in Nice is any great shakes) is a similar hike. No laundry facilities - must be taken to a laundromat or dry cleaner, the same down hill/uphill. Wake up call - you can borrow an alarm clock if you do not have one. Breakfast - available at extra charge - but only at 9am when we were there (early October). Our room was large and comfortable, with a nice bathroom and a little terrace. The hosts are nice enough. But Villa Les Cygnes falls well short of providing what minimally is expected by "hotel", and is expensive (we paid 140 euros/night) for what it is.

My husband and I just returned from 4 days in Nice - our stay at Villa Les Cygnes was simply great. Benedict and Remy welcome you into their home like you're family. There are only 6 rooms here - we had room #1 with a full terrace. Big room, high ceilings, huge bathroom (and I don't mean by European standards, I mean big by any standard). Spotless. Spend the extra 12 euros a day for the breakfast - you will not be disappointed. Depending on the weather, you will eat in the garden or right in Benedict and Remy's kitchen. The hotel is an easy 8 minute walk to the Promenade on the Mediterranean. What could be easier? They also give you the names of some restaurants, varying in types of menu. We met (and had breakfast with) several of the other guests - folks from Scotland, England, New Zealand. They of course were just as pleased as we were with the hotel. Cannot say enough good things. There are bus stops all over the area, buses are very reliable, clean and cheap. Word of caution - cabs are very expensive and if you need to have one called in advance (as we did to go to the airport) there is an extra charge of 10 euros. No hesitation in recommending Les Cygnes - hope to return there one day!

We have just spent three nights in this charming and friendly hotel. It is well-located in a quiet area of Nice but within walking distance of the centre or an easy bus trip. The owners could not have been more hospitable, pleasant and willing. They offered a list of restaurant recommendations one of which we used, Cave D'Origine, and we would thoroughly recommend this restaurant as well. The room was probably the largest we have stayed in in a French hotel and was airy and spacious and both it and the en suite bathroom were spotless. Breakfast was excellent and even better when served in the garden.
