This receives 5 stars relative to the other places you'll probably find along the Promenade. I travel a lot for work and "had" to stay in Nice for a recent 2-week business trip. I happened to bring along my wife and 4-month baby and this was an ideal place.

The seaside view is almost a "must" at this hotel. The rooms are roughly 402-408. We stayed in room 405. Without it, you might as well stay at the cheaper Hotel Suisse next door or at another place further west along the Promenade. The views of the ocean and coastline from here are second to none in the city.

Room size is fairly large relative to other European rooms. The bathrooms are really well kept and very clean. They're equally spacious as well.

The staff is very kind and courteous, especially the porters (namely, Nicholas). Parking can be done via valet - which is a great option if you stay for more than a week. Otherwise, there's a parking "lot" around the corner about 200 meters away, east of the hotel.

There are numerous places to eat nearby the hotel. We tried out over a dozen over the 2 week stay. Breakfast at the hotel is expensive (18 euro/person) so go outside. We did happen to order room service the first few meals as we were adjusting to jet lag and the food is superb, though pricey.

  • Liked — Views, room cleaniness
  • Disliked — Difficult to navigate the stairs with a stroller. There's no other way around it (no ramps available).

After an absence of a few years, we stayed at La Perouse in January. The hotel was just as good if not better. Staff were without exception helpful, courteous and friendly. The bedrooms were very clean, the bathrooms were gleaming , and breakfast was good and served in a relaxing atmospere.

I've stayed at La Perouse every year for the last 4 years and each year we have a wonderful experience. What makes it great is the friendly and attentive staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. On our most recent trip, we had driven in to town from Drome with a 6 month old baby. We pulled up at La Perouse and before we even walked inside the staff was out front helping us unload the car with tons of baby gear. On the trip before that, we held a little party after our wedding at La Perouse and the staff cheerfully took care of every detail to make sure it was extra special.

The location is also great, the rooms are wonderful - many with unbeatable views... the breakfast buffet is a perfect way to start the day.

I can't think of a single thing I would change about La Perouse. It's really perfect. It's all you could ever want for a lovely stay in Nice.

  • Liked — Friendly staff
  • Disliked — No building-wide wireless
  • Tips/Secrets: — La Perouse frequently upgrades rooms if available, try to get a room away from the elevator, it can be noisy.

My husband gave me the most excitng and luxurious birthday gift this year. We spent five amazing nights at the Hotel La Perouse in Nice.
He wanted me to have a vacation in an elegant small hotel with lovely amenties and a view of the Bay of Angels....and that's just what we got.
The hotel is just off the very loud, traffic filled Promenade that runs along the beach. Ask for a room that faces the water and you won't hear any of the traffic noise.
Our room was on the 5th floor of this lovely hotel. Since the hotel is terraced into to the mountain you must take two small elevators to get to an upper floor room. If this bothers you this is not the hotel for you. We found it odd at first but since everything worked so well it was not a problem to us.
The room that we had was charming and small but not cramped. It was done in lovely soft colors with pleasant yet simple furnishings. We had plenty of room to unpack and store our luggage out of sight.
The bed was large and comfortable and the linens (as the towels/robes) were very nice. The bathroom was marble and modern. All was quite comfortable and extremely clean. Every detail is thought about so you don't have to concern yourself with anything but relaxing.
We had a small (big enough for a table and two chairs) balcony over looking one of the most romantic and beatuiful bodies of water. Because we were blessed with 75 degree, sunny weather in Nov. we were able to have breakfast on our terrace (watch out for the very high charges for this little perk). It was expensive........but we just loved starting our day in this way. Having a glass of wine on the terrace when we returned from sightseeing in the afternoon and watching the sunset was even more amazing..
There is a restaurant /garden for breakfast which was also lovely.
Fortunately the beautiful pool and terrace were open due to the warm weather so we were able to sunbath there daily. There is a jacuzzi and small health club area on the roof.
This hotel is located very near the flower market and Old Town which is loaded with wonderful restaurants and cafes. We ate at a new and wonderful place each evening. The hotel can give you a written list of suggestions.
During the day we drove in our rented car to Monaco, into Italy, up to the hilltowns and down to the seaside villages. Nice also has some wonderful sights. We loved the Russian Cathedral and the Chagall Museum. We took a tram tour of the Old Town on our first day to orient ourselves. That was very pleasant and helpful.
My husband and I have traveled many places throughout Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and the United Staes both for business (expense accounts) and pleasure. We both agree that the Hotel La Perouse is a gem where you will feel like you just stepped into the vacation of your dreams.

We stayed for a week in August 2006. We were initially surprised at the location of the hotel, set into the rock face and seemingly incorporated into private flats. The reception staff were very helpful and our car was valet parked (at additional cost but not extortionate). Our luggage was taken to our room via the quaint and tiny lifts. The room was very clean and although small, very comfortable and stylish (except for the plastic furniture on the balcony).

We ate in the hotel restaurant twice for dinner during our stay and the food was excellent. We also had a couple of light lunches. Breakfast was very pleasant sitting out in the lemon grove as long as we were not too close to some guests who liked the sound of their own voices! On two mornings we chose to take breakfast in our room. We would thoroughly recommend this! The greedy sparrows and pigeons with an eye on our croissants added to the fun!

Nice itself was a delight and being in the old town made all the difference to our fun nights out, despite some torrential rain showers. We had one special dinner at Negresco and many much cheaper dinners in the fascinating narrow streets nearer to La Perouse.

The beach was an interesting place to people watch. We tried one day on the public beach and two on the private beach. It was worth paying those euros for a sun-lounger as the pebbles are not very condusive to sun-bathing! Swimming was a bit limited when the jelly fish came in. Look for the flags indicating 'meduse'!

Our best day out was to Vence, a lovely medieval town out in the mountains; a haven for artists. Tourettes Sur Loup was equally quaint and we spotted Charlie Watts from the Rolling Stones there...well, we thought it was him and the RS were playing Nice that week! Grasse was huge disappointment.

We will be returning to La Perouse next year and maybe many more years in the future. There is so much more to see and do and this hotel is the perfect place to be.
