For Chagall fans, this museum is a must! It was disappointing that the film on his life does not contain subtitles so we who are French-challenged could enjoy it, as well. For free admission, visit the first Sunday of the month.

“If you like art you must visit Musee Chagall!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

For any visitor to Nice at all interested in art, this gallery should not be missed. The gallery itself is a fine piece of modern architecture & purpose-built to exhibit the Chagall collection. The paintings are therefore displayed to best effect & look spectacular. Don’t forget to go into the auditorium to see the stained glass windows. The main hall has 12 large paintings illustrating stories from the Old Testament. In another hall, non-biblical paintings from his earlier period are hung. Take some kind of photo ID & you get an audio-guide included with your entry ticket.

“Wonderful museum for the Chagall fans”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

Excellent, small museum that holds a nice collection of religion-inspired paintings. We rented audio guides and learned a lot about the artist and the history of each paining. And I would recommend it. Its not difficult to get there, but we used bikes all over Nice, and this was not an easy trip up the hill, but manageable for me (not really a sport addict). Would definitely do it again next time I am in Nice.

“Good for Chagall lovers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

I would give this a 3 and my wife would give this a 5 so I compromised. We walked here from the train station without much difficulty. We didn't use the audio guide. A definite plus is that you can take non flash pictures of the paintings. In particular we liked the stained glass windows.

“Impossibly wonderful art displayed exquisitely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

Chagall lives in this museum. The film in the museum theater is well worth sitting through, even for non-French speaking visitors. For those of us primarily acquainted with his art at the Metropolitan Opera, the museum opens up terrific new vistas on a great master.
