Just the name alone creates the interest. The Marc Chagall National museum of Biblical Message is a stunning collection displaying the largest body of works by the genius. He is the most emotionally evocative jewish artist of the 20th century. The pictorial joy and sorrow depicted in his harvest of works are complimented by his magic in stained glass windows.
Within this cleverly designed facility, you will find paintings and sculptures that will evoke humor, whimsy and pathos as you wander in fixated amazement at the 12 huge paintings of stories from Genesis and Exodus. There are also tapestries and mosaics inspired by biblical themes of the Old Testament.
The site is set in the hills of Cimiez, surrounded by pools and gardens. It is a devotion to the legacy of Chagall's life, told through hundreds of oil paintings, lithographs, drawing,as well as,ceremics and windows.
It will make your heart soar, weep perhaps, but certainly be elevated to a state of purity.
Tip.....check out the film on his life.....it will flesh out depth to your experience
Tip.....Out in the garden,in the kiosk .order a drink that includes Kir and Cassis white wine. It will start you on another fine discovery.
