“Our car was broken into right at the museum's parking.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012 via mobile

Dear fellow travellers and art lovers! Please beware! Don't come to the museum by car. First of all, there is very little parking space available. We drove around the area for about 30 minutes before we were lucky to find a place at the official museum's parking (it is tiny!) Well, we thought we were lucky... After a very inspiring visit to the museum which is really good (the Biblical Message series are now my favourite works of Marc Chagall) we came back to the car only to find out that it had been broken into! Luckily, they only stole the bag with our swimsuits, beach towels and guidebooks... This museum is definitely worth visiting but the area is not safe if you come by car... If you don't want your visit to be ruined, use public transport, taxis or come on foot.

“A gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

A small gem of a museum that merits its status as a national museum. Great collection, well presented with good supporting information and housed in a very fine modern building. It's on a manageable scale, with enough material to give a fairly comprehensive impression of Chagall's life and art without being exhausting. Good audio guide (3 euros) if you don't want to wander freely. I recommend the biographical film. It's 52 minutes but time very well spent if you want to appreciate Chagall.

The Cimiez district near this museum and the Matisse gallery is a desert as regards restaurants so best to time your visit to avoid lunch. The cafe at the Chagall museum is OK for a drink in a pleasant garden setting but the food is poor.

The 2 Tripadvisor entries "Museo Chagall" and "Musee National Message Biblique Marc Chagall" both refer to the same museum and its actual name is "Musee National Marc Chagall".

“Very interesting....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

The work on display is an interesting mix of old and new, sculpture, stained glass and paintings.
There are a couple of interesting Picasso's as well.
The audio guide enhances the exhibits but it's fortunate that it can be switched off!
Make sure you check the times of the English version of the film of Chagall's life.
For the avid art buff, the Matisse museum is a twenty minute walk away.

“Worth the visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

Chagall is one of my favorite painters, so I'm a bit biased. But I recommend a visit. The current exhibit is about artists in exile and how this affected their works. Many of Chagall's most beautiful works are displayed to wonderful advantage.
