“Good value hotel in Nice with great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Suisse to celebrate our anniversary and had a great stay. We paid for the Premier level room which was on the 5th floor and had a private balcony which provided a great view of the bay of Nice as the hotel is located at the end of the Promenade. The was a little on the small side but good enough for us as a couple for three nights. The hotel is clean and good value and service was very good. The hotel also provides free wifi for as many devices as you need and if you book directly with them, they provide you with a free drink voucher (which we used to have a nice glass of champagne).

The only problem we had was that the pillows provided were a little lacking in structure so it made it a little more difficult to sleep than normal.

Room Tip: Pick the Premier rooms as they are on the upper levels and have a view of the bay of Nice

We are just back from a three night stay at the hotel Suisse. We stayed on the 4th floor, room 45 and our friends stayed in room 12 on the first.
Firstly view. As mentioned by everyone reviewing on Trip Advisor the view probably the best you could get in Nice. Our room on the fourth floor had an amazing view. We had a lovely long balcony but quite narrow, not great if you suffer from vertigo or a fear of heights. Our friends who were on the first floor had a much wider balcony and even though there view obviously was not as good as expansive as ours, you could see over the tops of the palm trees so they had a really pleasing view as well.
Location - This is our third trip to Nice and this location is hard to beat. A stones throw from the old town, buses and the port. We definitely preferred this end of town.
The lift is tiny but was not an issue, we walked up and down the stairs and used the lift when we needed to.
We were luck to have had breakfast included in our booking deal. No complaints there, everything fine but if you were paying additionally it would not be good value for money. The tending staff (Connie I think her name was) was extremely friendly and nice. Staff in general were very polite and obliging.
Bedroom. Very nice. Beds comfortable and as stated early cold see the view from them. Coffee machine in our room, nice touch. Showers were good, plently of hot water and bathroom spacious enough. Closet was small but we did not find it a problem. Not enough hangers but this seems to be the case with most hotels we have stayed at.
All in all I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Room Tip: Higher for view. Room 12 on first floor for wider balcony

While the location is superb, the facilities are lacking. The building is old and worn down with some aspects just downright dirty. The balcony is just large enough to step out but not large enough to sit. It's also quite noisy with inside and outside noise. The street is very busy and the traffic noise is extremely noticeable. I would look around before staying here.

We stayed here for 5 days, great location with most of Nice walkable. We had a privilege room with a balcony overlooking the bay. This was simply stunning. The staff were friendly and accomodating. We did not have breakfast choosing to get out for a walk through the flower market and stop for coffee and pastries. The dinning area of the hotel looked pleasant enough but just not for us, there are so many great places to eat, that spending extra for breakfast seemed a waste. In general a really nice hotel .

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony the views are worth the extra money

We stayed at Hotel Suisse for 2 nights the middle of March. The hotel is in a fantastic location and we had a lovely room over looking the bay. The weather was fantastic that weekend and we made good use of the balcony. The room was really nicely decorated as was the bathroom. We got lovely robes and slippers and there was plenty hot water. The coffee machine was a lovely touch and they give 2 complimentary capsules each day. Very fast internet connection.

A few downsides was our room was not available until half 3 even though check in was late enough at 3pm. A few days before we arrived I had emailed the hotel and I didn't even get a reply. The tap in the bathroom was cracked along the side. The first morning we were woken up with the next rooms's tv on at 7am! When we got back that afternoon the cleaner had left wet pillow cases down the side of our toilet and left the cleaning spray on the ground by the sink. We picked them up and left them out in the hall by the trolley. We also had no bath towels and had to ring reception to get them. We asked at check out if the airport bus strike was still on and we were told that it wasn't in that days paper so it wasnt. When we came back later to collect our suitcases we asked a different receptionist where was the nearest stop for the airport bus. We waited at that stop for ages before someone told us that the bus was on strike. It was very hard to find a taxi and we got to the airport with 40 minutes to our departure time which was very stressful. We think a 4 star hotel, charging those rates, should give correct advice at the reception and should know information on how to get to and from the airport for tourists. It's because of this I haven't given the full stars.

Other than those things I would recommend Hotel Suisse for its amazing view and location.

As mentioned by several other reviewers the location of the hotel is excellent.

If you're with a car, there are several huge parking facilities in the old town nearby, so parking is not an issue although it's not cheap (overnight 27 EUR).
Apparently the hotel has no deals with any of them for better prices.

The "tradition-rooms" are very small - in a typical french way - and the walls are made of paper (?). We could hear everything what was going on in the room next door.
Lack of storageplace was also a problem, as there was only one very small closet in our room.
This means that you have to store most of your clothes etc. in your suitcases - for which you don't have too much room either.

They have succeeded to isolate the noise from the street, as you really can't hear much of the traffic - and it is a busy street - when the windows are closed.

Hot buffet breakfast was very good and the "mademoiselle" taking care of the guests in the breakfast room was very helpfull and attentive.

If you are looking for a hotel with an exceptional panoramic view of the famous Baie des Anges in Nice, look no further : the Hôtel Suisse is for you !
I have been living on the Côte d'Azur for almost all my life and I had always been wondering if the view from that hotel was really worth it. Well, it is !
When we got there, we were welcomed by friendly staff and we took the ancient (and exceptionally small) lift. Some people will not like this detail but we did : the only thing is that it is limited to two people so you may have to wait for your turn ...
Once we got to the fourth floor, we discovered a reasonably large room with a little balcony overlooking the whole bay (as you can check from our photos). We were unlucky to have the only two days of bad weather of the past week (but we did not call the reception to ask them what they could do about it).
The room was decorated with taste and the bathroom was fine. Coffee machine in the room (only the first one was free), TV and free internet were positive points too.
But, apart from the view, the other main asset is that the hotel is very close to the old town of Nice where you can enjoy the little streets with their shops, bars and restaurants.
The only slight drawback of the hotel was the phonic insulation which for a hotel of that category might have been slightly better. We did not have our breakfast there (18€ seemed a little exaggerated, particularly with the number of places where you can have it around the hotel, unless it is a very beautiful day and you want to have it on your balcony over the bay).
In conclusion, we were not disappointed at all by our stay there and I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Room Tip: Choose a room with the view of the Baie des Anges.
