“Good For a Weekend Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

We had a 3 nights stay in mid May and paid the extra to have a deluxe room. We found this rooom to be smaller than expected and guess that it was just one of the standard rooms with a bigger bed. That said, the room was clean and well equiped and the bathroom was small but attractive with a good shower.
WiFi is free throughout the hotel but we found access in the room was poor and kept dropping out at busy times.
The hotel is in a quiet business/residential area within easy walking distance of the old town and the main restaurant areas. We took the number 98 bus from the airport that travels along the main promenade towards the port. This hotel is a short walk from the "Gustav" bustop.
Our rate included breakfast and we found that the selection of food was standard for a Mercure hotel and adequate but not very good value for money. The restaurant is crammed into a corner of the lobby and the tables are very close together which we found very unpleasant when sitting shoulder to shoulder with other guests at busy times.
On our last day we discovered that there was a well equiped sunbathing area on the roof. Nobody had pointed this out to us and the only clue was that there was an extra button on one of the two lifts to floor 7. There is no information about the hotel facilities in the room and it would have enhanced our stay if we had been told about this area when we arrived.
All in all we would recommend this hotel for a short stay close to all the main attractions of Nice. We thought that was rather expensive when compared with similar hotels elsewhere in France.

We enjoyed very much our recent stay in the Mercure Nice Grimaldi . Our room seemed brand new , everything spotlessly clean, a nice big bathroom with a great shower and I loved the cheerful mural over the bed ( will try to post photos ). A shoulder bag with enclosed goodies was a nice touch as we arrived into our room! The location was great, just a short walk away from the promenade and a pleasant stroll to the old town with its lovely morning market and restaurants while taking in all the sights on the way. Within minutes of the hotel are lots of fine restaurants and shops. We walked everywhere and sat for hours reading under the shade of the trees on Garabaldi square watching dogs play in the fountain, skateboarders practising, and people relaxing in the sun or sitting in the cafes that surround the square. A short train journey took us to Monaco for a day. It was beautiful and as we did in Nice, we took the hop on hop off bus. Caught the changing of the guard at the palace, the exterior of the Casino with the flashy cars , the preparations for the Grand Prix and had a leisurely lunch in a lovely sidestreet. On another day we went to Cannes, hired brolly and chairs on its lovely beach ( not expensive and worth every cent ), swam, later dined in a Lebanese restaurant ( a first for us) , tried Lebanese coffee which will keep you awake for a week, walked past the expensive and normal shops and got the train back along the beautiful coast to Nice. We had been in Cannes 20 years ago while camping in Castellane and it was great to see it again as it prepared for the film festival. All in all we had a great time and the hotel was ideal with friendly helpful staff, good breakfast and great location.

LOCATION. The hotel is located on a quite street close to the restaurant area and 10 minutes walk from the railway station.

ROOMS. Rooms are usual, clean, with comfortable beds. Wi-fi connection is available. An iron and ironing desk are available at the reception desk. As I understood, they had only one iron per hotel. Lobby is small and not very comfortable.

BREAKFAST. It's good, various and quite sufficient.

STAFF. Very helpful and friendly. Receptionists helped me several times with orientation in the city, train schedule, etc.

GENERAL IMPRESSION. The Mercure hotel is quite standard but absolutely convenient for a traveler who spends minimum time in the hotel (just sleep and breakfast).

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

Stayed three nights on a weekend break. Disappointed. Hotel is in a great location only a few minutes from the old town, and the staff were very helpful. Nothing else was good. We had one of the newly renovated rooms, was tiny cheap and tacky. A modular plastic bathroom had been stuck inside what was already there, strange choice of colours for the decoration. Was hardly big enough for a single, not a double. Breakfast also done on the cheap with the quality of food, particularly the cheap fruit juice from the machine was undrinkable. This hotel is in a great location, they should improve the quality and they'll have a winner.

We stayed for four nights in April in a newly decorated room. Actually refurbishing was still going on in the corridors, so there were workers working and materials lying around, but we did not feel troubled by this at all. The room looked out the back and was very quiet, no traffic noise. Bed and bed linen were good (also new?) and there were extra pillows and blankets in the wardrobe. Ample wardrobe space for a small room. We appreciated the kettle and fridge, which made it possible to have tea and sandwiches. The bathroom was all new with hansgrohe appliances, very nice shower. Also a safe, large flat screen TV, and aircon. Very comfortable, I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for room at the back, quiet and cool as sun does not shine in in the morning.

We had a wonderful time at this no-frills, hotel in Nice. The Mercure Nice Grimaldi is in a very central location. This hotel offers breakfast, but there are many places around the hotel to eat for less expense and better experience.

Our room was very nice, with a comfortable bed and decent air condition. The view was pretty good due to the location of center city.

Room had a hot water pot with coffee that was replenished each day with instant coffee. There is a safe in the room, which was nice. The windows opened up for fresh air.

The bathroom was decent, but the towels could have been a little bigger.

This hotel is a 10 minute walk to the beach!

Overall, I would stay here again as the price point was very good and the accommodations were in line.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are quieter. Breakfast at hotel is a bit expensive considering you can have a more aut...

We stayed for 6 nights in March. We had one of the best rooms in the hotel all refurbished.
Carpet and bed much better than previously. Strange choice of colour lime green as the main feature. Unusual idea in regard to tea and coffee etc paper cups and wooden sticks for spoons.

They did give us cups etc from the breakfast room. Breakfast very good choice including

All the staff are excellent. They are finishing the refurbishment of the public areas later this year. It will be interesting to see.

The lux rooms are much better than the standard but they cost quite a bit more.

The location is excellent and only 10 mins from everything.
