“Great Location, Friendly staff, clean!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel in Nice and we would return. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is great, close to the beach, shopping and a short walk to the train station. The renovated rooms are very nice clean and tastefully decorated. The rooms have air-conditioning and sound proof windows which was a nice touch because Place Massena can get busy at night.

Room Tip: Stay in the renovated rooms.

We had room 9 in this lovely hotel, just in front of Place Massena, near Old Town, and a block from the Mediterranean. Place Massena is a very active, busy square till the very early hours of the monring, but with the soundproof windows closed, and air conditioning on, we were very comfortable. Agatha was our contact person, and she was there to greet us on arrival.
The room was immaculate, and in the remodeled section. Room 8 also looked beautiful with an outside balcony.
Breakfast was reasonable priced, and was very adequate; croissant, juice, and coffee. A good start for your day.
This is both a Trip Advisor favorite, plus a Rick Steve's pick.
There is a parking garage just a block away. You can actually walk to every site you wish to see, and take the car for day trips. We drove to Monte Carlo, a very short distance, though very windy roads.
Hotel de la Mer is very close to Old Town, where all the evening action takes place, plus many excellent outdoor restaurants.
We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Didn't really see the rooms that have not been remodeled, but loved our room that had been remod...

We stayed here for a weekend break in Nice. I didn't think much of Nice (a bit tired) but thought the hotel was good value. From reading previous reviews I emailed ahead and asked for a renovated room and was told that would be possible for 2 of the 3 nights so we got to see both 'sides' of the hotel. The renovated room was lovely and great value. The older room not so, very pokey and old fashioned. We found the staff to be really helpful and there was free wi-fi which is always a bonus. The location is fantastic, the view out of our window was great and the rooms were very well soundproofed.

The hotel is situated in the middle of the city and it is easy to go to the beach or city centre. The room was clean and the bed was very soft. Staff there were friendly and helpful. If I have a chance visiting there again I will definitely stay there.

Don't be fooled by the descriptions and unrepresentative photos, this hotel is not a nice place to stay. Yes, the location is great, facing the Place Massena fountain. The actual hotel is on the second floor, up a set of stairs that is totally uninviting. The "front desk" is similarly uninviting and the staff is the same.

We did not know to ask for a room in the upper numbered rooms that had been remodeled but judging from the lobby, how much better could they be? Our room was very old, cramped and bare. No decorations, colors or much beyond a place to sleep. The bathroom is way too small for an adult the shower is moldy and barely 2 feet square. And, the toilet is nearly impossible to use without your knees and face hitting the wall. The advertised WiFi is only available within 10 feet of the front desk. The staff said it has always been that way. Public parking is a nightmare. Unless you arrive in the off season, all garages will be full or 20 euro per day. The rooms on the front of the hotel face the fountain but also the busses, motorcycles and construction. The rooms at the rear face a wall, the alley and the dumpsters.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. We had a triple room, which was huge by European standards. The room showed a little age, but was quite clean.

The best thing about this hotel is the LOCATION. It's just a couple minute walk to the heart of old Nice, the beach, and the bus stops to/from the airport and other towns (such as Monaco or Villefranche).

We had a beautiful view of the Place Messina and the fountain. The area did stay busy into late at night, but we had no noise problems with the window closed.

We never ate breakfast there so I can't comment on it.

Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

They take my money for a booking that I have never been informed. Avoid this place.

Went there ANONYMOUSLY in order to see the Hotel and find out that there are homeless outside the building, noisy and with very bad service
