Arrived on a blisteringly hot day (well by UK standards anyhow...) to a city that smells of a laid back opulence and clean air. Found the hotel with the excellent help of an ex-pat (God bless you Jonathan!) - it was about 5mins walk from the promenade and as long as you remember which way to look at the zebra crossings that all motorists ignore, you will be fine.
Hotel allowed us to check in 3hrs early, which given the heat and need for a shower was a god-send! Staff spoke English much better than I spoke French so we got along fine (bless them). Reception staffed 24hrs which is good.
The room was on the first floor and was of a large size with a great bathroom (shower, loo, handbasin and bidet). Towels were changed every day if required. Complimentary all-in-one shower gel/shampoo, tea, coffee and biccies topped up daily too.
Room contained a good sized fridge and there was ice available in a complementary bucket at Reception, along with free tea and coffee there. There was also free internet access at a PC in Reception, which came in handy for checking out local places, or finding the French words for things long forgotten. Local supermarket was nearby called Casino and was much cheaper (2ltrs water costing just 18c) than the smaller tabacs or cafes.
Didn't do breakfast, which at 8euros for a continental seemed a bit steep, but the restaurant looked clean and food seemed fresh.
Made it to the Le Chateau, promenade, old town, Monaco/Monte Carlo and spent a day sunbathing - not bad on a three day break! Restaurants in the old town were the best for variety - not only in dishes but also in price too. Trains to Monaco were cheap(ish), on time and fast - beautiful trip along the coast and the stations were clearly marked. TIP: sit in the right hand side on the outbound journey for the best view of towns along the coast. Once you arrive in Monaco station, go right for the port, left for the Casino.
If you do go to the beach - take some water shoes, jellies or flipflops - the pebbles are a killer and it makes getting out of the surf alot easier.
Centrally located for all areas of Nice city and with staff that were knowledgeable about the area and attractions - I'd definitely stay at this hotel again!
