“Even better than last time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

Our second visit and it was even better than the first one. Philippe the owner has obviously been making strenuous efforts to spruce up the hotel, for example new stair carpet. We had the loveliest room, on the corner, with windows on three walls and a little balcony. Staff coped admirably with the influx of visitors for the carnival.

The Star has a multilingual staff who are always available to answer questions and are very proud of their city! The room I had was average for a budget hotel--clean, with good quality tv reception (French only channels) and a good bathroom. I didn't try the breakfast (which carries a fairly hefty charge), preferring to find croissants on nearby main street Jean-Medecin, but Star's breakfast did look sumptuous. Excellent moderate-priced restaurants nearby--try the Lebanese one across the street. Close to Nice Etoile shopping centre, a short walk from the Old City and connected by Nice's superb tram system (1 Euro per trip) to all parts of the city. Safe, well-kept, close to everything, at a great price.

Star Hotel is perfect if you travel on budget. It is centrally located very close to a big mall named Nice Etoile and within walking distance to the old town (10-15 mins). Our room was quite big, had TV and the bathroom was very clean and had a hair-dryer; perfect if you take into account that we paid 65€ per night for a double room. If you travel by car, you can park the car at the parking of Nice Etoile, which is very convenient (20€ per day). Two computers are available at the hall with free Internet access. What I would not recommend is the breakfast: for 6,5€ you can find outside the hotel lots of different options to have breakfast (breakfast at the hotel is just continental, with no many choices, for example, no ham or similar).

Small hotel on a side street, but close to the town centre and not too far from the promenade, the old town and the market. The price for a 4 bed room was very cheap and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Could do with an update but for the cost t was well worth the money and I'd recommende this hotel to anyone on a budget who is looking for a no frills place to sleep.

This is a lovely little hotel set just off the main shopping road in nice. There is a tram and a monoprix supermarket at the end of the road both of which are very useful. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the old town, 10 minute walk from the train station and 10 minute walk to the beach. The tram at the end of the road (1 minute walk from hotel) takes you all the way to the old town and is only 1 euro each journey.

You can get to the hotel from the bus terminal located at the airport. You need to get the number 99 bus (it costs 4 euro per person) and takes you to the train station (its then a 10 minute walk to the hotel.

The hotel itself is a lovely little establishment. The staff could not be more helpful. They are very welcoming and polite and they could not have been more helpful when recommending places of interest and they were happy to help with general queries. The breakfast is very nice. Its a continental breakfast. The hotel is so neat and organised which helps with the ambience at breakfast time.

We stayed in room number 10 on the first floor. The room was very small and the decor in both the bathroom and the bedroom were very dated (imagine 1970's style brown floral tiles in the bathroom). However, the room and bathroom were spotless and were cleaned every day so the decor was not a problem. You may not always get a good nights sleep though especially if the people above you have an early flight as you can hear every sound in the room above!

You are provided with the following in your room:

Hand Towels (x 2)
Medium size towels (X2) ***THE TOWELS PROVIDED ARE QUITE SMALL SO MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO BRING YOUR OWN BATH TOWELS.
Flannel (x2)
Complimentary Soap (2 x little bars)
Toilet Roll

There is a hair dryer in the bathroom attached to the wall. If you forget your english adapter for the plugs you can hire one from the hotel for 2 euros.

There is a wall mounted small flat screen T.V in the room with a DVD player so if you want to bring a few DVDs you can as all the T.V channels are French.

The hotel has free wifi and has 2 computers downstairs for the guests to use.

The hotel also sell cold drinks and hot drinks through the day and evening at very good prices. The bottled water is 1 euro for a small bottle and 1euro 50 for a big bottle. The cans of pop are 1 euro 50 and the hot drinks are roughly 2 euros each. TIP: Buy your soft drinks at the hotel before you go out for the day as the price of just a can of coke at the beach is 5 euro.

TIP: If you haven't been to Nice before we feel we should warn you about the prices of everything. Everything you buy in Nice is extremely expensive. Hence why we spent most of our time in Mcdonalds (even Mcdonalds was twice the price of the UK!) To give you an idea on prices we ordered 1 bowl of chips and 2 cans of coca cola at a restaurant and it came to 14 euro! So even though the hotel is budget be prepared to pay high prices for everything once you step out of the hotel. On the plus side the public transport is pretty cheap. You can get to Monaco for 1 euro each way although 2 cans of coke in Monaco set us back 13 euro!

Hotel is perfectly located closed to the main street of Nice, staff is so helpful, offers yoyu many guides, leaflets, perfectly speaking English. They want to help with everything.
We had a room on the last 3rd floor so it was a little hard to go with haevy siutcases, beacuse there is no lift.
Room is clean, a little peeling paint from the walls, but this is not a problem at all, bed comfortable, lots of pillows, good renovated bathroom, everything very clean.
The only strange thing was restrictions written on the doors, for example you can not eat&drink in your room under penalty, so we were almost afraid drinking bottled water, it was written that if staff finds any bottles or traces, crumbs of food you will have to pay.

Breakfast was very good, typical french: baguettes, croissant, variety of jam, juice, youghurt, cheese, apple, apple mousse, butter, coffe or tea, milk, cereals.

Generally I very recommend!

Room Tip: not on the last floor if you have heavy suitcases

great location with some good restaurants plus right near all the shops etc, brilliant staff on reception, room is basic and dated but had plenty of storage space and also a safe for valuables, room is not huge but enough for 2 people, bathroom had a very old half sized bath, old tiles and mould under the light but this could only be seen when sitting in the bath and is somewhere the cleaner couldnt reach! For 50 euros a night which is what we paid i didnt expect much but the bed was comfy and the shower was good, we had good sleep, better than we have had in hotels for more than twice the price!
