“nice hotel, bad location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2011

The only thing that they "forget" to mention is that between the hotel and the sea is the airport, and you have to walk about 1,5 km to get to the beach, because on the airport side there is no bus station

Room Tip: if you don't have a car, don't go there

just got back from staying at the campanile hotel ,although literally over the road from the airport it is also ideally situated for hopping on a bus into nice centre ville and to the port,
the food at the hotel is very good especially the "all you can eat "buffets.
the rooms were cleaned daily and staff were very polite and helpfull.
the best bit is its right next to phoenix parc which for only 2 euros is a fantastic way to spend time in Nice, with a mini zoo, tropical glass houses and beautiful surroundings you would never know you wre right next to a airport.
also grat situation for visiting, monaco, monte carlo, cannes, antibes and even italy,
only downfall is its very hot so use the aircon as its far too noisy to keep your windows open.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the parc not the airport,it will be slighly quieter

Considering this hotel is a 2 star we were expecting far less than we received. The room was clean, there was free internet a new television, and a short walk to the station and airport. We were also able to check in earlier than the usual 3pm check-in time. It's a perfect place if you have an early flight the next morning, since it is really close and they serve breakfast starting at 6am.

The only downsides are the breakfast did not accompany hot food such as eggs or sausage and you have to pay approximately 9 Euros each person. The restaurant closes from 2pm to 6pm and there are no other places in close proximity to grab something to eat.

I stayed here on my last night in Nice so that I'd be close to the airport to catch my flight out. It is 7-8 km from the centre of Nice, but walking distance to the airport.

The rooms are very nice, with a spacious bathroom. There are coffee/tea facilities in the rooms and wireless internet. There are vending machines in the halls, and a bar/restaurant on the ground floor. Breakfast is not included but is available for about 8 Euro.

To get to the airport on foot you need to go up the road a few hundred metres to a pedestrian subway, which is not well marked until you reach it, because the road fronting the hotel is a busy highway.

To get to the airport with baggage, there is a free shuttle which departs from just around the corner, perhaps 50-100 metres from the hotel entrance. The hotel concierge will give directions if you ask about this service.

While the hotel is not near the city centre, there are regular buses to the city and back. Price of the bus fare is 4 Euro, because of the airport, but that gets you a day pass so you only need to buy one ticket (per person) which you can use to return to the hotel, or catch other buses, or the tram.

Behind the reception counter is a room where you can store your luggage if arriving early/leaving late. They accept no liability for lost/stolen luggage (standard anywhere).

The staff were friendly and most spoke multiple languages, some with more ability than others. This only presents a problem if you have requests other than the standard check-in/check-out and tourism requests.

There are stairs and elevators so no problem accessing your floor.

Location.
Across a busy dual carriageway opposite the airport control tower. Next to the Novotel
Transportation
Has its own free shuttle that runs on the hour. Call this from the airport by using the free ‘phone at T1 gate A1 just outside arrivals exit. Or from T2 gate exit A3.
Walkable with hand or wheeled luggage from T1 arrivals gate A1
Exit Gate A1, go straight ahead crossing the two red/white crossings and infront there is the underpass for the road. Continue straight on under this and at the roundabout (50 yards) use the crossing to cross the road and take a right towards the easily seen Novotel. Keep walking past the Novotel and the Campanile is on your left (50 yds)
Takes about 5 mins max.
From T2 catch the free inter-terminal bus and either get off at T1 or ask the driver to stop at the next stop on the way back to T2. At this stop cross the road and walk back the way the bus has just come (walking towards Novotel) in 50 yards you will be at the roundabout where you cross the road to your left. This stop is also served by the 23 bus.
There is a bus stop outside the hotel which is served by the 98 (express bus to the airport)

Hotel
Check in
Staff Ok, free apples on the counter.

Room
Basic but clean, soft bed with 3 pillows. TV shows French channels.
Air-conditioning not effective so may be a problem in hotter weather.
Kettle with two paper cups and two tea and coffee sachets.
Bathroom. Basic shower gel/shampoo + soap. Decent shower pressure + bath with hot water. No discernable noise in the night from the road or the airport.

Restaurant.
Dinner is a combination of all you can eat buffets
24Euro 16 euro, 8.50 Euros or a set menu or the A La Carte dinner, nothing fancy but OK. Breakfast is extra at 9.00 euro-I did not eat.

Wi-fi Internet is free but is very flaky in the room. Better in reception though always slow.
A few basic eateries around the hotel, but nothing worth bothering with IMHO.
Overall a good one nighter for being close to the airport.

I stayed at this hotel with a group of friends.
The hotel is directly opposite the control tower of Nice Airport, this is an ideal location for ease of travel to and from the airport.

The hotel is a good location to travel to and from but really too far out of the centre for easy strolls, It took about one hour to walk back from Nice Centre to the hotel, that said the public transport is easy to use and quite regular.

There are regular bus services (1 euro) into Nice centre.
There is also a night bus service in Nice. (We caught the last bus back at 01:20, it stops 5 minutes from the hotel.)
The taxi back to the hotel from Nice centre cost about 20 euros (it was on the meter)
The train station St-Augustin is also nearby. We caught the train into Monaco from here.

The hotel is good value for the price paid. The rooms are clean although quite dated and basic.

There is a television in the room, although no English speaking channels.

The bathroom was clean, everything was working.

I had a room with a double bed, this was comfortable, I had a good nights sleep.

I could not hear any noise from the airport, although I could hear constant running water; I assume this may have been from the air conditioning ducts. (I was on the upper floor) but this was not a problem.

The reception and bar area was quite impressive and appeared to have recently been refurbished. The area was a nice place to relax with a drink. (Drink prices were reasonable.)

The hotel does have a restaurant but we did not use this. Breakfast is also served in the restaurant but our price did not include breakfast.

The staff were efficient and polite and spoke good English. Staff made an effort to meet all requests. But I would have liked more friendliness.

My wife and I stayed here one night so they we would be close to the airport to catch a morning flight.
PROS
Across from the airport, shuttle to terminal once an hour, so very convenient for our purpose. Also it was only 90 Euro. Next door is a lovely nature park and for 2 Euro is worth walking through. The buffet dinner was excellent. There was free wireless.
CONS
I guess two stars indicates a number of small inconveniences and lower expectations. The exterior of the hotel is a bit shabby. There's under hotel parking but for an additional 8 Euro but there is no elevator to the lobby. The rooms are small and a bit dated. There are no ice machines and the bar said they had no ice. There is free TV, but only in French of course and the BBC channel didn't work. They have a PC in the lobby but no printer, so you can't print your boarding pass. Outside and adjacent to the hotel on the Promenade des Anglais L'Arénas the prostitutes start lining up at dusk.

Overall, this hotel is OK for one night if you need to get to the airport early.
