“Tiny rooms...the rest OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

The hotel is in a very convenient place, 5 min walk from the train station, near the main street, the promenade and the restaurants area of the city. The staff was very nice, polite and helpful. Even though the hotel faces a big street, you don't hear any noise in your room. The only thing that we didn't like at all was the room...extremly small and with a low ceiling (my boyfriend is almost 2m tall...and had some troubles standing in the room). You had to take turns to walk from one side of the room to another...! The room had a TV and nothing else. The bathroom was even smaller, and divided just by a thin door with the room. Even if you go with your patner I believe that a little bathroom privacy is needed!! You had to open the bathroom window for air circulation, and right in front of you were two other buildings...so once again bathroom privacy zero!
If you don't mind the room size and the bathroom issues, than the hotel is perfect since it's close to almost everything.

I arrived at the hotel during a planned power cut which which was unfortunate but I was checked in OK. Power was restored earlier than forecast. The hotel is very close to the station which is also served by a shuttle from the airport. It is up an escalator right next to the platform so I didn't have an issue with the area. It is the standard Ibis room but I have come across rooms in better condition. I couldn't get the TV to work (but only wanted a weather forecast and got that on the free internet so no big deal) or the air conditioning. It was slightly noisy with the window open. (I could have tried out the 15 minute guarantee but I was in my pjyamas and it seemed too much hassle) and I slept OK so I didn't have any complaints. Check out was handled briskly.

Three stars but if everything including the air con works I'd give it four. Recommended if you are arriving or departing by train.

We stayed there twice. It was nice, comfortable and basic as you would expect from Ibis. The location is good in terms of its approximity to Nice station. But this area is a bit rough. The rooms are small and basic, but clean. They even have an outdoor swimming pool. The breakfast is quite a delight with very fresh croissants every morning. This is what we expected from a budget hotel.

Stayed 4 nights on the 6th floor. Room seemed clean enough and bed was reasonably comfortable. Shower room is tiny and very little space around the (King size) bed. The room had what I assumed was a combined wall mounted heater and a/c but the a/c function did not work in any of the rooms of our party resulting the rooms being very warm. OK, its Nov so open a window to sleep at night I hear you say, but then the hotel location on a busy and noisy street in a below average area next to the main train station means this was not an option. Assume the hotel had disabled the a/c function in all the rooms to save $$ in the off season. Would look elsewhere the next time.

Room Tip: upper floors are better

Stayed for 4 nights on business...not my choice and I won't be back. Main issue is location. It is beside the airport bus stop and train station which is good but this is a dodgy and noisy area. Dodgy bars, sex shops, fights and drunks. Did not feel safe walking back to hotel at night. The entrance is poor ....up an escalator, which is switched off at night, past the tramps and then into the hotel...not good. The rooms are probably like any other ibis but too small and cramped for me. The air con was switched off but room was hot but when u opened window shouting drunks etc prevented sleep. tv remote was manky. Breakfast was fine.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

We are 3 travellers staying in double rooms for single use. We always check our rooms on arrival, using LED torches, for signs of bed bugs. Here we discovered bed bug faecal blood spots and trails on the walls and under bedside tables in 2 of them (we took photographs). The receptionist Cyrielle came up, confirmed our findings and confirmed that they do have a bed bug problem occasionally. They changed our rooms. Unfortunately, the new rooms also had bed bugs with more faecal blood spots and trails (photographs). The receptionist was too busy to visit these rooms too, but saw our photographs and accepted that these rooms were also affected, but there were no more spare rooms. Because we had booked through an internet agency, she could not transfer us to another hotel. We had to stay in bed bug-infested rooms, using the recommended protocol – sleep naked, place all clothing in our suitcases, put them in the shower area during the nights, thus not taking home bed bugs or their eggs. We took many photographs - only 5 are displayed here.
Overnight we were all bitten on our necks and heads and a further, more detailed, inspection of the third person’s room, on day 2, showed bed bug faecal blood spots there too (photograph). So there it is: 5 rooms out of 5, every one infested with bed bugs. It is our opinion that this hotel is a focus of infestation, sending bed bugs to people’s homes all over the countries that they come from.
We arranged with the receptionists for the director, Mr. J–M Deleris, to meet us the next day at 6 p.m. upon our return from our day trip. He dodged it. Reception staff told us that he had taken a cursory look in one or two of the rooms involved, declared them okay and went home at 5 p.m. He knew we had photographs to show him, he had heard what we had to say and he could not face us, so he disappeared like a scared cat. Reception staff Cyrielle & Linda apologised profusely for this as they had tried to encourage him to stay and meet us.
The mattresses and box-spring beds are covered with jet black material, thus making the tell-tale faecal spots impossible to see on the beds in the usual way! Adult bed bug faecal trails are occasionally visible in the corridors where the bugs go from room to room.
Upon our return we contacted the internet agency who contacted the hotel. They spoke to the same receptionist who had changed our rooms, but now she is claiming that the rooms we were changed to were uninfested which makes no sense because she had seen the photographs, confirmed the same problem existed here too, and had wished to send us to another hotel but was unable to because of the internet booking. Why would she offer this if the rooms were uninfested? On the second day, when asked if she would sleep in these rooms she replied, “No.” When asked if she would allow her parents to sleep in them, she replied firmly, “No.” Then we asked all 3 of the receptionists “So what are we supposed to do – we don’t want to sleep in them either?” to which one replied, “It’s not as bad as Marseille. They are worse,” while another checked the computer and told us that they employ Rentokil to attend every few months to deal with the problem. But Mr. Deleris was not inclined to call them in again because of our findings.
Every single point, fact and detail was established with staff at the time without argument. This was our first discovery of bed bugs infestation using LED torches and examining walls, door bottoms and the undersides of all tables, etc. We recommend that everyone should do this in future as this is a growing problem internationally, with hoteliers in denial and merely cleaning off faecal blood spots and trails in an endeavour to hide the problem.

Room Tip: Take LED torch and inspect under table tops &c for faecal blood spots and trails.
