“Just what we wanted”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

We wanted a well situated hotel with an adequately spacious room, clean and well fitted, a decent breakfast and a friendly and helpful staff, for a six-night stay. This hotel ticked all the boxes, with a special commendation for the reception staff who were cheerful and helpful.

If you haven't the funds to stay at one of the luxury hotels, this one is a great choice.

The hotel has a great location. Very close to Place Masséna, and the shopping area. There is also a very good Italian restaurant accross the street. I would not recommend to take breakfast in the hotel, though, you pay a high price for minor quality. People at reception desk were very helpful at all time. Even the extra bed we had in our room was of good quality.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your positive comment about the location of the hotel and reception staff.

It seems that the stay has not entirely given you satisfaction because of the breakfast and we are sorry for that. We inform you that we have an “express” breakfast which costs €8 with a hot drink, a fruit juice and two pastries if you judge buffet breakfast too expensive. Nevertheless, we are in the average regarding the buffet breakfast’s price compared to other hotels of the same rank.

We will be pleased to welcome you again at the Nice Riviera hotel.

Stayed for 3 nights in room 307 which was a standard room but was very comfortable and decorated and furnished to a high standard.Bathroom tiles and bath looked a little tired but bathroom was very clean. The hotel staff were fantastic and very helpful at all times, the breakfast was superb and the indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi area was fantastic especially as it rained a couple of times during our visit.
The hotel is in a superb location being only a 10 minute walk north to the main train station and 10 minutes south to the old town bars etc or the beach areas. We stayed in Nice for the UEFA Chelsea super-cup game held in Monaco and we were all very pleasantly suprised with the city. The old town of Nice is full of restaurants and bars and some great ice cream shops.
If visiting Nice i recommend you take a bus trip (only 1 euro) on bus no.100 from the old town to Monaco. The bus takes the coastal roads and there are some great views on the journey as you pass the beautiful beaches and marinas below.Try to walk the motor racing grand prix circuit as you then take in some great sights of Monaco this way.
Would definately love to return to Nice and would definately stay at this hotel again

As has been said by others this hotel has a great location only minutes from the main shopping and picturesque old town with its many restaurants. We stayed in a sixth floor room with a balcony which was a real bonus to come back to after a long day walking around the city. The balcony has chairs, table and sun beds. Our room was freshly decorated with hardwood flooring which appears new and was all that was necessary for a comfortable stay. Good sized bathroom with warm coloured marble.
Our room overlooked Rue Pastorelli and we slept well without any problems from street noise at all probably because the balcony doors are double glazed. The aircon was more than adequate even at the lowest setting.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room had wifi and was accessed by asking for the user code and password from the reception. We were allocated 8 hours use, don't know if that was because we stayed for 8 nights or whether that is the norm but plenty for us.
We did not use the breakfast facility as there was ample places nearby for around 10 € which is half of the hotel charge of 20€ but it was well used and looked very nice. There is fridge and coffee maker in the room but we had our own travel kettle for tea which we found easier to use.
They arranged a transfer to the airport at the end of our visit which was 30€ ( one of the girls at reception who arranged this actually said it is " 30 euros, no more no less " and will arrange a pick up from the airport if asked for the same cost. On arrival we took a taxi and it cost 36€ plus tip.The buses ( 98 or 99 depending on which terminal ) cost only 4€ each but it does leave a fair walk pulling bags to this hotel from the nearest stop.
We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Have a room with balcony if possible.

Delightful and helpful staff, good breakfast, really enjoyed our stay and the location is excellent. Handy for everything, would certainly stay there again. There is also an excellent Italian restaurant just across the road.

Having recently stayed at the Nice Riviera Hotel, I thought it helpful to provide my feedback on this particular property.

In terms of location, the hotel is situated in a side road, within the main city centre shopping area. The train station is a leisurely 10 minute walk away, with the beach/seafront also a 10-minute walk away.

In respect of the hotel:
We were staying in a Classic Room. In terms of size, it was fine. The furniture was modern and clean. Somebody has in the past commented about the carpet being old and dirty. The room that we stayed in had been replaced with a modern wood floor, that looked to have been fitted recently. Our bathroom had a bath with shower overhead and a wc to the side. First impression was that it was clean. Unfortunately, when I mopped up some of the water on the floor with a towel, the towel was covered in dirty filth where the tiles have been wiped over, but never properly washed clean. Disgusting! The view from the 4-ft square box window was as one would expect in a city side street, though the small size of the window made the room feel pod-like and claustrophobic. A rare noteworthy comment: The beds are wonderfully comfortable!

When checking-in we were told that the cost of a continental breakfast was €20 per person. How they can justify charging that sort of money is beyond a joke.

The hotel has a indoor swimming pool just off the lobby, with about 8 chairs. As per usual idiots put there belongings on the chairs ad then disappear for the rest of the day. Why don't hotels simply monitor this and after 30 mins of the chairs nit being used, simply remove all the items? There is a very tiny shabby area to the side of the pool with a x-trainer, exercise bike and weight machine. The equipment is well past it's sell-by date. There is no jogging machine. Believe it or not there is NO OUTSIDE AREA to sunbathe or sit. What is that all about?

Summary: the Nice Rivera is not a terrible hotel in my opinion. My criticism is based on the price that we paid and the rating that it advertises itself as. This hotel is in my opinion is no better than a good 2-star/poor 3-star.

In the lobby, they have a TripAdvisor certificate with a 4-5 rating. All I can say is that some people must have extremely low standards to award this establishment with such generous ratings.

I would NOT return to this hotel, as it is overpriced for what it offers. In hindsight I wished I had searched around, as once we arrived in Nice, it soon became apparent that there are an abundance of hotels that offer so much more than the Nice Riviera for the same money.

I am sure that the hotel will reply with their "sorry to hear and we look forward to welcoming you back" spiel. I personally find that sort of reply to be meaningless, contrascending and of little benefit, whereas hopefully the above opinion/review will help people form their own judgement as to whether they choose to stay or not?

PS: Nice is a beautiful city

Room Tip: Look elsewhere.

Dear Guest,

As you have pointed out, your comment deserves a reply.

We would like to thank you for taking time to share your opinion about staying with us.

In 2011, a deep reform of the french hotel ranking system with the creation of a scale using one to five stars, officially gives us a 4 stars ranking. You can rest assured that we fully correspond to the french hotel ranking's criterions.

As you mentioned it, we have been entirely renovated in February 2012. Renovations during which we have, for example, replaced all of the room's carpeting floor by an ecological bamboo floor.

We do charge buffet breakfast 20€ per person. We offer a large choice divided into one cold and one hot buffet. And if our guests prefer to have something quick, we have an "express breakfast" for 8€/person with one hot beverage, one orange juice and two pastries included.

As the wellness area is concerned, we do have the only inside heated swimming pool of Nice, measuring 4x8m, opened all year long. Guests who use this place are looking for relaxation we cannot limit the time of using the chairs like in fastfoods.

We have taken note of your approache, as your suggestion to include a jogging machine to our sport equipement in our future improvements.

Concerning the outside place, we do have a terrass on the 6th floor with deck chairs for guests who are looking for sunbath.

Contributing to our guests complete satisfaction is always a top of mind concern for us. We hope that we have addressed your concern in regards to your stay with us. And we shall be happy, of course, to provide any other information

With best regards,

We had two terrible days in the grand Aston and got on to our tour operator to get us moved. The riveria is a fantastic hotel and the manager is an absolute gentleman him and his staff couldn't have done anymore for us when they heard about our situation. They upgraded our room from a superior room to a superior room with a terrace balcony. The hotel location is perfect central for shopping, restaurants and wine bars. We had a great time.
