“Very good location, nice hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

the hotel is very small, I took the street view room so it was not even close to the picture that published officially by the hotel,
the room was clean and quite OK, Breakfast was also quite good.
the location is very good, the location is very close to the sea and behind the hotel there are a lot of restaurant and shops,

Rooms are quite simple but clean and modern. Location is great - right next to Promenade des Anglais and within walking distance from shopping streets and nice cafes and restaurants. Bus stop to Airport is just around the corner, as well as McDonalds where you can get quite good coffee and macarons.

I just spent 5 nights here. The hotel itself is generic modern, with an attentive, efficient staff.

What made this a great choice, however, was its location. The Mercure Prom Anglais is only a 10-minute stroll to the winding cobbled alleys, restaurants and boutiques of the old town, and a 20-minute walk to the Palais des Congres (conference centre). It is directly opposite the waterfront promenade (unfortunately I didn't know to ask for a sea view room -- but a friend landed one. I'll know better next time!) No matter where your room is situated, however, the breakfast room looks out over the Med; a great way to start the day.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view!

A friend recommended this hotel and it was a good choice so long as you upgrade to the sea-facing rooms, which are larger, brighter, and have gorgeous views across the Promenade des Anglais and the blue Mediterranean. These rooms have been updated in the past few years, so they do not appear worn. The bathrooms are also comfortable and functional. The continental breakfast is perfectly French and very satisfying. The location on the Promenade des Anglais is great and it is within easy walking distance to great shopping and the tram stop at Massena.

On the dowside, the receptin area is small and not very private and the corridors seem dark and clastraphobic. A good choice if you can afford the noticeable step up in price for the sea-facing rooms.

Very Nice and well situated hotel exactly opposite the riviera facing the promenade... Sea View rooms are just awesome.... About 10 min walk from the old town where all the party and restaurants are placed... If you want to party and be very close the the old town then Mercure Old Town is a better option for the sake of distance...

Room Tip: Sea View Room

We spent three nights here in early November 2012, and while the location was great, I can't say that I felt the room was anything more than mediocre.

The hallway on the third floor smelled REALLY funky - I said sewer, my wife said hospital. Whatever it was, it wasn't pleasant. The room itself was fine - but you could tell it was a bit dated and had a duct-tape renovation. This was our first time in a Mercure, so perhaps my expectations were too high based on all the great reviews. However, the hotel felt more budget than mid-range. The front desk staff were very friendly, helpful and informative.

The biggest thing this place has going for it is that it's halfway between the train station and the old town. This worked really well for us, as we did a combination of day trips by train and walking around the city itself.

With all that said, I'd definitely try somewhere else if I was in Nice again.

Entrance to the hotel is in the side street not on the main street facing the ocean. There is another Accor group hotel on the opposite side….I think the other hotel occupies the higher level rooms while the Mecure has the lower levels.
Reception area is small & a little basic, so we were starting to worry. No need. The ocean view corner room was spectacular!!! Stunning views; clean & modern furnishings. We may have had a disabled room as our bathroom was huge with the shower being just a shower head spraying onto the open tiles with a large curtain to pull around to keep some of the water under control!! We were told we could move the following day, but as we were only there 3 nights & we loved the corner room, we stayed.
The bed was large. We had a Nespresso coffee machine on the small table that doubled as my bedside table. There was noise (weekend) from the street but not enough to keep us awake. The double glazing worked well. The balcony was only big enough to stand on….no room for chairs, so that was disappointing. Loved the view though….could see sooooo much!
We did have an issue with our free internet in the room. It kept dropping out. We went down to ask what the problem was….as the phone didn’t work either. They apologised & said the internet would still work in the lobby, so we sat there to use it. They were very apologetic & helpful offering us complimentary breakfast on the next 2 mornings of our stay. Nice to see hotels go to a little bit of effort with custom service!!!
We walked everywhere during our stay, but buses are close too. The airport shuttle bus stopped straight out the front of the hotel on the main promenade, but we took a taxi (sorry I can’t remember the cost, but it felt too much for the short distance!)
There was a casino on the street level but we didn’t go in. If you are going to be in a seaside town, then you want your accommodation (if you can afford it) to be close by so you can take full advantage. We were given coupons to get discount at one of the beach front ‘clubs’ where you can sit in a chair rather than on the rocks, & order drinks, but unless you plan on sitting there all day, it wasn’t worth the E20 fee. Weather was sunny & warm but the water was cold in September, so a quick dip & short sit on the rocks….I mean beach, was enough for us.
This hotel was a good choice for our stay & we loved our room. Perfect location!

Room Tip: Sea view is a must!
