“Decent Hotel In A Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

Stayed for two nights on a deal with British Airways. Hotel is in a good location being just off the main route from the airport, ten to fifteen minutes and as others have mentioned it is only ten minutes walk from the hotel to Nice Riquier station for a train to Monaco/Monte Carlo and it's fifteen minutes on the train for just over three euros. The tram stop is just over the road from the hotel and is one euro per journey. Two stops to the main square or again ten to fifteen minutes walk. Hotel was clean and tidy and check in smooth and fast and staff were very friendly. On check in we were given details of the free wifi and it was very easy to connect. Speed was slow in the room but was adequate for checking emails etc. We were on the fifth floor and had a room facing inwards towards the Novotel so it was very quiet, excellent, never heard another person during our stay. Room was modern with a minimal stocked, but adequate mini bar, room safe, complementary bottled water, tea and coffee etc and bath robes and slippers supplied. Bathroom was clean modern and well appointed with separate toilet. Breakfast was included in our deal, the continental selection was very good but the hot selection was very limited but we knew that anyway as it was advertised as a continental. All the staff we came into contact with were very friendly and always smiling. Never bothered to check the roof top pool, bar as it was raining. Enjoyed our stay very much and would use again. Our room number was 528.

Very friendly personnel at reception, good size rooms, clean and comfortable, , decent furniture, safe, minibar (selection of drinks in minibar is quite poor though, but it did not bother me as I did not use it anyway). Toilet separate from bathroom. Air conditioning did not work, although it was not too important in end of October.
Location is quite good – a couple tram stops (tram stop is around 100m from the hotel) away from the old Nice, easily walkable if one fancies a walk. Nice Riquier Train Station is within 10 minutes walk – with trains for Monaco, Cannes, etc. Bus 98 (going to Nice Airport) leaves right in front of the station.
Another disappointing thing in the hotel is the way they provide Wi-Fi:

A. It is not clear that there is free Wi-Fi in the hotel. Although there is a general note in the lift proudly stating that some NH hotels now offer free Wi-Fi, the booklet in rooms and a special note in rooms actually say that Wi-Fi is not free. And when one tries to use Wi-Fi, the swisscom site (where your computer is redirected) offers you to buy access rather than to go to reception and get a username and password for use of free Wi-Fi. This smells a bit like cheating.

B. the quality of Wi-Fi is poor, especially in rooms (not so bad in the lobby downstairs). It is quite slow and, which a lot more annoying, keeps disconnecting and asking for password again and again. If I were to pay for this I would call this ridiculous and totally unacceptable. But as long as it is free... After you find out how to make it free...

I've never seen such poor Wi-Fi solution in any cheap 2 star hotels who offer free Wi-Fi.

This is the most poorest service.. Facilities poor... They asked if we wanted an upgrade.. We said yes.. For 15 euro a night extra why not... The robes and extras weren't in our room when we got there so had to ring and ask.. Went up to gym which is not a gym and there only treadmill out of service... Sauna out of service... Computer downstairs out of service..the aircon in the whole hotel didn't work and we were told to
Open our window if we were hot... Put our breakfast order on our door and next morning sitting there waiting for brekkie in our room and card still on door... Went down for dinner and was told we couldn't be served because they didn't have staff.. There were only 5 tables full in a big restaurant... Pretty poor.. The list goes on and that's only the first two days..the only good thing is its across from the tram line and rooms are ok... Although our bath plug was broken so we had to move rooms after we had unpacked all our stuff.. Do yourself a favour... Do not stay here.

The price is very high, service is absolutely horrible. The air con in the entire hotel does not work. When i spoke to reception they told me to open a window if i was hot. Traffic noise is so bad it kept us awake at night. Our breakfast menu was hung on our door and didnt get picked up so i called down in morning and the staff were rude. A half hour later i got my cold omlett and bacon. I went down one night to eat in the restraunt in the lobby at 9 pm, was told they couldnt seat me and my sister because they were understaffed and only had one chef. There were less than 20 people in the restraunt so had to go round the corner to novatel hotel for dinner. Rang for room service on friday night and got told they had no cook so couldnt order food. The gym is a out of service treadmil and one multi weight machine in a tiny room, sauna dosent work, business centre has two computers one is out of service and u have to pay to use them. Wifi is free but u have to re log on every 10 mins. This is the utmost worst hotel i have ever stayed in!!! Never again.

...because:
- not to NH hotel standard
- average location, walk to areas of interest is dodgy and through shabby streets
- part of the congress centre, which must have been built 20+yes ago incl. the hotel itself
- hotel staff is unprofessional, greedy and even rude, were laughing behind our back once we questioned them on some of their misleading explanations
- completely overpriced even at a bargain, Nice is expensive but I would not pay more than EUR 50 per night for a double room at this place
- gym is a joke, unusable
- room is dirty, stains all over the upholstery, toilet stank, bathrooms are old and the worst there are no mattress covers but only one thin sheet covers the mattress, I refused to accept that and made them but an additional sheet on which still made me feel grossed out all night.
I would not stay here again and would not recommend to anyone!!

This hotel is more like a hostal than a whatever-star they claim -- or that Priceline claims.

The rooms are like the Y.

The lobby is like a hospital.

Yes, it does have a pool -- which is supposed to be open after dinner. We went up an hour before closing. The gate was locked, there was garbage all around -- and no staff.

We got the hell out the next morning.

Incredibly, they wanted the equivalent of $240 USD for our next night. And 100 Euros a day to rent a car from them (before tax and insurance and gas).

We cut the car rental in half, and used a Priceline blind-bid to get an ocean-front room in Cannes for less than this dump wanted for our second night.

While Priceline served us well for the high-end hotel in Cannes, note that its description and star-rating for the Nice NH was bogus.

Room Tip: Skip this hotel unless you get it for 50 to 60 Euros. Consider it a hostel.

We stayed at NH Hotel Nice back in June 2012 to celebrate our friends 30th birthdays. We booked 5 rooms as there was 10 of us based on the fact that this hotel had a rooftop Pool. When we got to the hotel we made our way to the roof terrace only to find the door was locked. The management at the hotel were very rude and only recommended a beach club as an alternative which we would have to pay for. We had a lovely time in Nice regardless, however we were very disappointed in NH Hotel and I have since emailed them to complain, which they have responded to with a 15% discount off our next booking - no thanks!
I would recommend anyone looking to stay at NH Nice to take a look at Hotel Novotel which is literally next door and has a lovely roof top terrace and pool, we know this as we sneaked up there and used it after all else failed at NH.
If you're not looking for a pool then the hotel is clean and comfortable but nothing special. The hotel is in a good location for accessing the city, although it's not in the heart of the city but there is a tram stop right outside.
I personally will avoid staying at any NH Hotel ever again based purely on their poor customer service. We spent a lot of money with them (5 rooms for 4 nights) and they come back with a pathetic 15% off our next booking. Not impressed!
