“Excellent location, lovely hotel with a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

Stayed here for 5 nights in April. We paid extra for a top floor room, just so we had a view - and it was lovely! Could see the whole of the Nice coast, and sunshine all day round!
Very 'old type' French decor in the lobby and lifts, but the room was contemporary, modern and very comfortable. Nice to have wi-fi in the room.
Location was good - just a short walk into the old town, where there is an abundance of bars, restaurants, shops and side streets to explore. Close enough too to walk to the station - great for travelling a little bit further (Antibes, Cannes, Monaco etc).
We got a taxi from the airport on arrival - 40 Euros. So caught the 98 bus from right outside the hotel back to the airport on our return - 6 Euros each. Was busy, but easy enough.
Lovely few days in a very nice hotel.

Room Tip: Top floor is best

We spent a very happy 4 nights in this hotel.
I booked a deluxe room on the top floor, priced @ €988.00 for the 4 nights, €247 per night and I emailed the hotel a couple of times requesting a corner suite.
The room we got was perfect, the one I wanted. We had beautiful balcony views of Nice; on one side we had the main promenade and could see all the way along to Cap Ferrat and on the other side, we had the Negresco Hotel and could see all the way along to the airport. This surely must have been one of the best views in Nice. In fact, we found many Nice postcards with exactly the same view of the Negresco as we had from our room and felt that these must surely have been shot from our balcony!

The room had been recently refurbished with a nice shiny tiled floor. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was lovely, it even had a window with another great view of the city, there was even a mini fridge and plenty of storage space...really, I was very, very pleased. And the hotel is in a perfact location for Nice. You'll always be able to find it as the Negresco Hotel, right next door can be seen from anywhere in the city.
Buses that will take you to Cannes, Monte Carlo and lots of other places stop right outside the front door.
The staff were all lovely and very helpful and we even tried the hotel restaurant, Le Siecle, which was, on the whoel, excellent. I ate the best dish I had on this holiday there, in fact, it was one of the best dishes I've ever had in my life. White asparagus soup, with truffle oil, a razor thin piece of fois gras and strips of bacon. It was sensational.

So, I was very pleased with this hotel and would thorughly recommend it.

We were offered a choice of traditional or contemporary rooms and having overdosed on chandeliers and gilt in Monte Carlo we went for the cool, contemporary deluxe room on the sixth floor which had a small balcony (for sitting on a barstool to see over the parapet, not for a sun bed) . The room was small but beautifully and cleverly designed to provide every needed amenity, the white marble floors were soothing, the Matisse print on the wall was in apt and the bed comfy as expected. Thoughtful to provide a blind for those of us who are not quite contemporary enough to want our other half to view us on the loo. We didn't eat at the hotel but the concierge went over and above to help us with unusual queries, such as the "football special" bus to Nice new stadium. Recommended.

Booked last minute trip as treat for son before he goes back to Uni. Have stayed here before and it did not disappoint second time round. Superior Sea View room on 3rd floor was just fab. Wi fi sometimes only worked in bathroom but a minor gripe. Booked direct with hotel (again) - got good rate and excellent on line service. Reception staff both efficient and really pleasant . Breakfast staff could not have been more pleasant if they tried . Cannot fault breakfast-plentiful in quantity , choice and freshness....smoked salmon each day was great. Overall a really great stay- as other reviewers have said location, location , location! We will be back

Room Tip: Sea view-go for it...its a must if the pennies will stretch

We arrived at The West End having booked a superior room with a full bathroom and sea views. We were allocated room 314.
The room was small ,the furniture was very old ( not as in antique !) , tatty and chipped in a number of places. No bath. Air con did not work. All in all very disappointing, not superior in any way except for the view.. We asked to be moved but Francisco who was on duty at Reception said that they were fully booked that night. He then said that room 410 would be available the next day and we could move there. He even admitted that room 314 was not was ' not good'. We were asked to have our luggage ready in room 314 to be moved to 410 the next morning before we went out. We told him that we would be out most of the day , he said not to worry as they would move our bags etc, ready for our return in the evening. He would leave notes for his colleagues to do this.
This we did the next morning, handing in the keys to room 314 again telling the receptionist on duty that our bags were to be put into room 410.
We arrived back late in the evening and asked yet another receptionist for keys to room 410. We were then told that the room had just been given to someone else even though our luggage was in the room. At that time , the people in room 410 rang down to ask why there was luggage in their room and the hotel, instead of telling them there had been a mistake and moving them to another room, took our bags out ! Unbelievable . So , our cases etc. are returned to the Reception area while they look for a spare room for us. They said that they did not have any superior rooms , or even better rooms, free only one double with a side view, room 418. Another small room , furniture not as bad as 314 !, again no bath. At this point we asked to make an appointment to see the Manager the next morning. This was arranged for 8.30am.
We had been in our room for about 1/2 hour or so when we noticed that my husband's back pack was missing, another trip down to Reception. They couldn't find it so my husband and a member of staff went to room 410 and the chap there said that it had been taken out earlier. Back to Reception to be told that they had found it and had taken it to our room.......
We eventually went to bed, by now it's gone midnight, only to be woken up at 1.26am by a rustling type of noise at our door and then two people walked into our room. They had just been given keys to room 418 as obviously no member of staff had bothered to change our booking to show that we were now in that room. Again unbelievable !
At 8.30 the next morning my husband went down to the arranged meeting only to be told that the Manager, Mr.Walbrecq , was not available, they would ring us when he was free. At this point we realised that the keys to the room no longer worked as they had changed them for the people who had walked into our room in the middle of the night. They rang us an hour later and my husband set off again to meet Mr. Walbrecq , after that the phone stopped working as well. ( We were given more keys though )
In short the Manager did not really care, not at all sympathetic. At first he said that he could do nothing for us as we had checked out and had booked through Booking.com. We said that we had not checked out and that it should not be a problem because of Booking.com, if it was , it was his problem not ours. He then offered us a room free of charge any time we wanted to go back, this we declined saying that we would never go back there again. He then said that he would only charge us for one night, giving us a refund, and said that if we really wanted a good hotel we should have gone to The Meridien !! Once more, unbelievable .
The problems we had at this hotel was not unique to us, whenever we were close to the Reception area there was someone there complaining about something. The people who were given room 410 instead of us said that we hadn't missed anything as it was the worst room they had ever had there, they had visited more than once in the past. The air con did not work neither did the safe and the bathroom door did not close etc. etc.. One Dutch lady came down while my husband was at Reception complaining that she had booked a superior room and the room was most certainly not in any way superior. The Receptionist looked at her and said ' but madam we have upgraded you , you are in a deluxe room'. She became almost speechless but managed to say that she was off to fetch her husband.....
Looking at other reviews I think that they must have good rooms that have been refurbished somewhere in the hotel but they should not charge around 180 euros for what they call superior rooms when they are not. They need a major overhaul and staff need training in how to look after guests when allocating rooms etc.
If you do chose to go to this hotel , do insist on a room that has been renovated on a higher floor. Good luck !

Dear Mrs et Mr Holland,

I would like personnaly to thank you for your message, all review give us the opportunity to solve and to upgrade our services skills.

At your arrival time during the easter week end, you didn't liked your room, regarding your expectations. Because of our situation (full hotel) we had been not able to change that one. On the other day, we've changed your room, but we made a mistake inside our computer system, and then, your complain occured. We've made sincere apologies on the departure time, and we offered a compensation.

Your stay was prepaid on booking.com, the reason why we couldn't resolve directly the situation, but we did after.

You asked to booking.com to obtain a full reimbursement, but we refused. Because of that answer you didn't liked, now you are leaving new reviews with several new complains regarding our hotel.

Ours employees make every day all they can do to serve, and satisfy your overall stay, sometimes, mistakes happen and we recognize them, we apologies for those one, and we solve the different issues.

It is not fair, because you didn't receive all what you ask, to try to find more detail for complain.

We will be every time happy to welcome you back, and if mistakes happen, we will be every time happy to solve them.

We wish you a nice day, and i remain personnaly at your entire disposal for any question you may require.

The location is great for the City, it was close to the train station (20 min walk - uphill on the way back to the station for a good bit) as well as Old Town and Castle Hill. When we first arrived, we asked about an ocean view room and a Junior Suite was available. The front desk employee named Julian wanted to show us the room because it was a slightly different configuration before we committed. I really appreciated that, it shows they care about how their guest perceive the room and hotel. Regardless, we loved the room and booked it. The view was amazing and we loved the balcony with table and chairs.

Because of the street, there is no ocean noise to enjoy at all - just cars, people and motor scooters. It looked like there was a club beneath us, but we never heard any activity. The Breakfast was really good, there was a varied selection and we enjoyed it. There are tons of places to eat around the hotel and many little shops to choose from.

If you are looking for a white sandy beach, Nice is not it. There are rocks (potato size) and no sand to speak of that we could find. You had to walk across the street to the beach, but that was not a deterrent for us. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

Room Tip: Book directly on the hotel website for free breakfast during your stay - it is worth it. We enjoyed...

This hotel is situated mid way on the Boardwalk. The facility seems to be newly renovated in a very modern style. The staff were very helpful, especially one young man who spoke fluent english. In April 2015 the restaurant was under renovations so only breakfasts were available. The breakfast buffet was overpriced at 18 Euros for the selection available. There were plenty of small cafes within a short walk where a good breakfast could be had for between 6 and 10 Euros.
Breakfas aside, our stay was great.
