Pleasant hotel with very helpful, friendly staff. Suggest you ask for an upgrade as even the 'superior' rooms not very large but you do get a little balcony. Bar very quiet (i.e deserted) in the evenings. Good location as an easy stroll to the shops and (a little further) to the Place Massene and the Promenade des Anglais. If staying in Nice for a few days make sure you take time to visit the nearby village perche Eze.

Checked in and checked out !
We checked in to what was suppose to be deluxe room, very noisy road, tried to have afternoon sleep which was impossible, spoke with reception they moved us to supposedly another deluxe room (which was better) but still the road noise was very noisy ... So checked out and moved to Hotel La Perouse , The Elington would not give us any refund , but we just wanted a nice quiet hotel (we should have read trip advisors reviews before booking, as some other guests have said the same. The website which we booked the hotel also said it had a gym, which is one of reasons we booked it, but when checked in asked where gym was there was not one. The man on reception was more intersted in selling us tickets to a nightclub where he was performing!

Tthe Ellington is rated as 4star but the rooms don't reflect this. Their Superiors (the basic level) are small with little storage space for clothes etc. The wardrobe doors didn't slide but they never came to repair them. Power sockets didn't work, etc The room was far too hot, even with the heating off. The Deluxe we saw wasn't much better; just newer furniture. The location is great for access to the bus station & Old Town (5 minutes walk) and shopping. Breakfast buffet was very good - scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, cheese, pastries etc. Coffee = awful. Bar prices = high.

Tips: eat in the Old Town, particularly Le Safari in Cours Saleya (the flower market) and La Tapenada in Rue de la Prefecture; good value set menus at these and other restaurants in Cours Saleya. Buses are 1 euro for each journey, even the picturesque 45minute trip to Monaco/Monte Carlo. Don't go to Cannes by bus; it's 1.5 hours, not on coastal road. The bric o brac market in Cours Saleya on Monday morning is worth a visit.

Dec 30, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We stayed at the Ellington with friends for three nights. We travelled from the airport to the hotel by taxi and were given a very warm welcome on arrival, we found our rooms to be very clean with a modern bathroom an flat screen tv. Both rooms were on the third floor and had french windows overlooking the garden courtyard situated at the back of the hotel.

Breakfast was excellent with fresh coffee & tea, fruit juices, cerial, cold meats and cheeses, breads and pastries, they also had a hot selection of bacon, eggs ect. The staff kept the selection fully stocked and were very friendly and more than helpful.
The hotel bar was open until about 11pm adn seemed reasonably priced in comparison to others in NIce.

The hotel is in an excellent location, no more than 10 minutes to the bus terminal, train station, town centre and beach.

Despite some of the reviews posted, we found the hotel staff more than helpful, providing us with information and advice on getting around (use the excellent bus service for getting around 1 Euro for each journey).

We used the service bus to take us back to the airport - take the 98 or 99 for 4 Euro's each

We would love to return to Nice again and would return to the Ellington withourt hesitation - a delightful stay

Dec 19, 2008 | Trip type: Family

We stayed at the Ellington in September booked via Easyjet so it was very reasonably priced. When we booked in we were given what must have been an Executive Room (although we had only paid for a standard). It was HUGE, with three sets of French windows (admittedly not much of a view but very light and airy), big bed, couch, flat screen tv, bathroom with seperate toilet. Super.

Breakfast was buffet style and a little random, with service sometimes a little hit and miss, however it was included in the price, tasty and filling.

All in all had a lovely stay, would definately go back (particularly if we could have a unexpected upgrade again) but as other reviewers have mentioned try and avoid the hotel bar as service is a little unavailable and it's VERY pricey, even by Nice's standards.

  • Liked — Central location, great room.
  • Disliked — Prices in the bar.
