We recently returned from France and had good and bad experiences with this department store. Galeries Lafayette is a big upscale chain - like Macy's. Earlier in the vacation, we went to the large Paris store and were impressed with the quality of the merchandise (although too pricey for us). Later, we were in Nice and saw great big signs on the Galeries Lafayette store windows saying 40%. We went into the store and there were 40% off signs in front of some of the items we had found too pricey in Paris - so I bought one of those fashionable scarves everyone was wearing.I questioned the sales person because I was not given the discount. She said the sale started "tomorrow". So we did what any typical shopper would do, and returned with the scarf in the morning, and attepted to return it. It was like going through a tax audit to return an item at this store - completing a special form, with a special person that had to be called down from an upstairs office. We did it, however, and got our credit. We then went over and tried to purchase the same scarf at the reduced price. Guess what? We could not get the discount (It is "impossible" they said) because we did not have a store credit card. We still bought the scarf - but felt cheated since this had not been explained.
