“great for business travellers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2009

I went to Nice for a vacation/business trip. I stayed at the Negresco and the service was excellent. The rooms looked from another time in terms of decoracion and history everywhere. I was surprised such a big hotel didn't have better business center but I guess you go there for other reasons. it is a very nice hotel near to promenage, perfect distance from everything. I just didn't think it was family friendly if you have small kids.

The hotel was magnificent, a one of a kind experience.
The welcome, the service, and the overall ambience, as well as the great location, served our every need: we had a marvellous 4 day, 3 night stay.
The level of attention we received as guests was unsurpassed. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient.
We had an insideview room and it was very quiet.
All the noise and crazyness of Nice is just a 10 minute walk away.
We had a lovely stay and hope to be back soon!

My parents, boyfriend, and I took a tour around France in October 2008, and the Hotel Negresco in Nice was a great place to start our trip. The location was excellent, just across the street from the ocean with some very nice views. It was easy to get to and was in an area that felt very safe.

My boyfriend and I had a standard room on the side of the building. Our view was very nice into a neighboring courtyard and we could see the ocean if we went out on our small balcony. Our room was elegant, but painted a bright pink that I'm not sure my boyfriend loved. The bathroom was similarly bright colored (pink and green tiles everywhere), so it had a bit of a retro vibe. Definitely not modern, but that worked for me.

I felt well taken care of at the Negresco. The staff was helpful, rooms were cleaned promptly, turn down service was done each night, and the bathrobes were nice and warm. It was always very clean.

The hotel's owner is an art collector, so it was fun to tour all the floors to see the collection.. a bit like staying in a museum. The owner's love of art may also be why the hotel's decor is a bit quirky. There are a lot of bright colors and things don't always seem to match, but I found that really charming.

I would definitely stay at the Negresco again. It is a hotel that is high-class, but not at all stuffy.

  • Liked — The location, quirky decor, collection of art
  • Disliked — Some of the art was just plain weird

Booked direct as a last minute trip to sunny Nice was required after the bad summer in London. Reservations dept. extremely helpful, with accurate email confirmation following phone call.

The hotel is superbly located on the Promenade des Anglais.

We came by taxi - a warm welcome from the concierges.

Room (sadly we could not afford sea view!) was with inner courtyard view, decoration a bit old fashioned but perfectly serviceable. Bathroom spacious but again a bit old fashioned. Everything worked, bar the hair drier.

No pool and no spa. A private beach establishment across the road, open to the paying public too, with sunloungers and towels at E18 per head. We had lunch at the cafe/restaurant down there - very pleasant, about E25 a head for 2 courses. The beach is pebbly and the posing there is less noticeable than in Cannes - we did not feel too bad being 40s, pale and chubby.

We ate one evening in the Le Chantecler michelin-starred restaurant in the hotel - budget on E80-90 a head plus wine. We ate very well - excellent new young chef here, ex Four Seasons Provence, tipped to be one of France's finest. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk along the prom to the old part of town - plenty of cheaper restaurants and bars there.

The hotel bar was extremely atmospheric - slightly cheesy piano playing but actually we really rather enjoyed it. Bar prices quite high but what could we expect?

The public areas of the hotel are fastidiously clean and brilliantly maintained. The collection of modern art is out of this world. We could tell we were in a privately owned hotel - there is a pleasing element of individuality and eccentricity, as witness the ginger cat who occupies one of the nicest chairs in the main lounge area.

We will definitely return.

Very efficient reservations department where Alexandra responded to all my e mail questions. Initially six of us had booked for a girlie weekend on a special package. When 2 more wanted to join, the package was no longer available on the internet but the hotel just sorted it out. The rooms were all large & quirkily retro but this hotel is all about being unique and full of wonderful art etc. If you like the reassurance of bland hotel chains then the Negresco is not for you. If you enjoy very good food, a helpful and friendly staff and a real sense of history then it doesn't get better than this!
The Escapade package included free access to the wonderful beach with all the parasols etc included and the restaurant there was excellent. We also had 2 breakfasts included and a set meal at La Rotunde one evening. Also a box of wonderful chocolates.Philippe checked us in and upgraded our rooms. When we asked about the hotel, he gave us small books and vouchers for free drinks at the casino down the road. he could not have been more charming or helpful. The decor of La Rotunde was bizarre with the eerie doll at the accordion but both breakfasts and the set meal were very good.
We are going to return next year

Having read a few of the reviews we were a little anxious about staying here but were pleasantly suprised in fact it was excellent.
We had a sea view room and yes it was quirky but that is what this hotel is about individuality the bath was turquoise but it was spotless as was the bedroom..... fresh linen everyday and no nylon blankets only pure mohair.
The staff were very courteous and and went out of there way to help you.
If you like art and artifacts take time to wander around all the floors the Collections Madame Augier has amassed over the years is stunning.
The private beach is over the road and has a good restaurant for lunch and that final sundowner.
Finally if you want modern cold hotels like some others in the area do not come here but timeless elegance excellent service and something a bit different its all here.
We shall be back.

Recent stay was for 5 nights at Monaco GP time. Based on some previous posts I did harbour reservations about staying here but few alternatives for the time period settled the issue.
Arrival was quick and courteous with an escort to the room. Concierge was very helpful, making restaurant bookings and carefully explaining the beach policy (maybe previous posts were noted, who knows)
Room itself was directly overlooking the sea, road noise as you'd expect but actually not as bad as I feared, and the view was worth it. I cannot comment on other posts issues with decor or cleanliness other than to say that, personally speaking I was in a clean, comfortable room that looked as if it had been recently renovated. Perhaps they are indeed in the process of renovation and there is a mix of quality.
The place itself is a fascinating mix of art gallery and hotel. If, as I did, you take the time to walk round all the public areas you will be rewarded with viewing a collection ranging from the weird to the wonderful. If you prefer Holiday Inn decor, this is not the place for you.
Breakfast in the Rotunda is an interesting experience, the merry-go-round theme is OK for a quick meal but I could not bring myself to sit there for dinner, a personal thing but simply not my taste.
Overall a pleasant stay but I'd probably choose elsewhere next time.
