My wife and I spent two nights at the hotel in early June. We had a sea view suite on the top floor with two small balconies each of which had just enough room for one chair. The view was spectacular and the noise just about tolerable. The room was enormous with a large bathroom and dressing room. It had been fairly recently refurbished to quite a low standard and already wear and tear was well in evidence. It had a lighting system which required a degree in physics to operate. The colour scheme was enough to keep you awake at night; lemon carpet, orange furniture and silver walls and the carpet in the corridors made your eyes go funny! We had hoped for a more traditional suite and upon complainig about the colour scheme were offered the Napoleon suite but my wife thought the room was rather tired and the colour scheme of dark red and green too heavy.
Notwithstanding our disappointment of not getting the type of room we had seen on a recent Uk tv programme about the hotel we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is iconic and displays much of the history of the hotel in settings and furniture and paintings.
We didn't dine in the hotel preferring to get out and about but the coffee shop restaurant is quite amazing in terms of decor. The location of the hotel lends itself to exploring Nice on foot and you hardly ever lose site of the hotel from wherever you may be in the town.
Would we stay here again? Probably not because we both regarded the hotel of being more like a museum with rooms than a hotel.
