After reading all the rave reviews on trip advisor, I went ahead and booked the b&b.
We arrived at Mas des Oliviers, and were surprised by the state of the property. The building is in need of some TLC, and a lick of paint certainly would not go amiss. There were people viewing the property, so we were left wondering if that may be why they were letting the b&b side of things go.
Our room, Pamplemousse, was spacious and clean, if a little old school on the decor side. It was well equipped with a decent kichenette and a large bath in the bathroom. However at €135 per night, I was surprised to see no TV in the room. At that kind of money you expect the extra details.
Most disappointing was the empty pool with a leafy puddle of cloudy water. That was the planned swim on arrival out of the window. It would have been more honest of the owners to let us know prior to booking that the pool was empty: had I known this, I would never have booked. When I asked for a small refund at check out due to the lack of a functioning pool, the owner €135 as opposed to €185 in light of this. Wow. Maybe I am naive to assume that the 19th of October is no longer high season in any case.
When we came back from an evening out in Nice, we arrived at the b&b in total darkness; all the outdoor lights were off, and I had to use my phone light to get us into the room. I get eneregy saving, but leaving an outdoor light on would be a bit more thoughtful for the guests.
The breakfast was pretty poor. Foul tasting coffee and sour jams which were inedible. Not the amazing breakfast that other reviewers had apparently experienced. Again, for the amount of money we parted with, you expect more.
On the positive side, the b&b is located in a lovely spot up in the hills behind the city and has a peaceful vibe. It was a shame that the pool was empty, and that the slightly run down feel of the place meant we had no desire to stay any longer than we really needed to. I have simply no idea how Mas des Oliviers has such a high review score. For half the money you can find much better options in the area.

For the last 7 years, we have been welcoming people to our home and we are well aware that, unfortunately, we can’t always meet the expectations of our guests.
As we have already told you in our answer on another website we are sorry, that apparently we couldn’t meet yours.
We are not quite sure what to make of your remark regarding the B&B-side as there is only our home in which we welcome our guests.
However we now feel sorry that we did agree to welcome you outside of our arrival times. Therefore we had a clash with friends visiting and apparently didn’t properly welcome you.
We deeply regret the pool-issue.
Usually anytime after mid-October when the pool-temperature has fallen below 18 degrees Celsius we are starting the yearly maintenance.
We apologize to not having informed you beforehand that the pool was at 16 degrees and the pool therefore was not fully filled anymore.
Thank you for the remark regarging the TV. We will reconsider how we can better communicate that fact on the internet. Apparantly the mentioning of all you can find in the room up to the hairdryer without mentioning the non-existing TV seems not to be enough.
We are really sorry that the breakfast hasn’t been to your taste. If only you would have said someting when you have been here, we would have happily provided you with a Nespresso-coffee (which we showed you on your welcoming tour in the ouside kitchen) and would also have changed the homemade jam with one of our sweeter ones, like raspberry, apricot or prunes.
In any case we hope you will find much more satisfying stays in future times.
