“A Meal on the Promenade”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We sat at a table that gives on to the famous Promenade des Anglais. It was a nice sunny day and we sat contemplating the action right before our eyes. Groups of tourists, visiting students with teachers or guides, young lovers hand in hand, veiled Arab women pushing their baby carts, some beggars, an older man with roses offering them to middle aged couples for a tip, and hordes of other spontaneous human spectacles. On the street, the action was busy with a contrast of vehicles from mini smart cars to some Harley Davidsons, and then Bentleys, and a stylish Lamborghini. The show ended when the server brought us our food: I ordered pineapple caramelized scallops and my guest had a grilled lobster "a la creme de corail." Another customer from Holland, sitting at a table next to us, had a filet of duck a l'orange with grand marnier. I heard him raving about his choice to the waiter with his compliments to the chef. We finished our meal with two wonderful desserts: millefeuilles with strawberies and baba au rhum. Then we ordered coffee and went back to watching the colorful parade on the avenue!

“Very Good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Been many times before and always enjoy their menu. On a cold February evening the fish soup and onion soup were very good and followed by prawns and scallops and also steak with frites, very good as well. Service good and the restaurant was very busy whereas most on the Promenade were empty.

“Never judge a restaurant by its kitschy decor!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Just a few hours before leaving Nice we took one last stroll along the Promenade, looking for a place to have lunch. So we passed by Le Koudu and were almost put off by the silly Indian deities by the door, coupled with some African masks we could just glimpse inside. But our eyes met the fabulous dessert tray, with the most amazing looking "tartes aux fraises" and more such mouth-watering fare so we were compelled inside. And, boy, did we not regret this! Every single bite of food was just incredible - home-style cooking of the highest level! The gambas au persillade were heavenly and included a great little mousse of carrots and potatoes and a tasty leek purée. The tuna piccata was flawless, so was the escalope de veau. And need I mention the desserts again?Creme brûlée au Grand Marnier and especially the Pain au facon Grand Mere, shouldn't miss that. Cannot wait to go back on my next trip!

“Food Great, Service Poor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Let's get the bad part out of the way. If the service had been better, then I would have given 4 stars because then you do not mind the prices. But for this kind of service, the price is too high. In fact, while we were there, the waiter tried to cheat some asian customers by making each of them pay the same price for a shared plate whereas all the number of items on the shared plate costs less separately for the same number than on the shared plate!!??? 12 oysters on the shared plate costs more than if they had each ordered 6 oysters. So if the shared plate cost 90 euros in total, he made them each pay 90 euros instead of 45 euros. Daylight robbery!!
That aside, the food was absolutely wonderful. service was very slow and not very polite. The location was good, though I would suppose that in summer it would be very noisy as it is right on the promenade. but in autumn it was great, the sun was shining and traffic of cars and pedestrians not disturbing. Not sure whether we would go there again, mainly because of the bad service and the impolite, almost careless, attitude of the staff. Luckily the waiter did not try to make us pay more than the price on the menu.

“A great last dinner in town!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

It was a hot evening, the restaurant, located on the Promenade des Anglais is nicely decorated. The atmosphere had a touch of high class look and service. The food was good, the service as well. Nothing specific to remember for years to come but it overall contributed to the souvenir of a nice evening in Nice.
