A bit old and the cleaning ladies are not so good ;), but it has a very nice view (we have room from the street side). According to other hotels in this class in this area it's really ok.

In the end we didn't stay in this hotel, as the reception made such a dismal impression on us. It was dingy and dirty, and the toilet was out of order. When we asked the receptionist where we might find a public lavatory he was personally rude to me, and extremely impolite and unhelpful. Extraordinarily unprofessional and unwelcoming, an example of the very worst in French hospitality. This hotel is best avoided unless you like someone shouting at you, and attempting to humiliate you in public.

This is the first time we checked into a hotel using an automated machine located outside the hotel (self check in without human intervention). It was not difficult and the machine had options in English, French and Italian. You must have a credit card, and do not need to give your name or any other personal details.
Room and attached bath: small, but all things were functional. Clean and well kept. Given the low price (the cheapest in our entire 2-week holiday in France/Italy/Switz), we adjusted our expectations accordingly. So, it is a value for money hotel.
Beds are firm. We booked a 3-bed room, and the 3rd bed is a bunk bed above the double bed.
Location: beside the main road connecting France and Italy, and facing the Marina. If you close the French door, much of the traffic noise is muffled. We managed a good night’s sleep. It is about 1km from Italy. You would need transport into town centre. 10-minute walk to supermarket and a free and pretty cool children’s playground.

Stayed for one night back in May 2003. The Etap Menton was easy to find on the main road to Italy. The automatic check in was easy to use. When the reception area opened we enquired about the under hotel car park and were allowed to park for free. The car park was difficult to access and manoeuvre in but it was secure so no real complaints. The breakfast was the standard Etap help yourself breads and preserves and very good coffee. The breakfast buffets don't look very impressive in Etaps but you can rely on everything to be fresh and more satisfying than the lukewarm "hot buffets" you get in some more expensive hotels. Etaps are convenient, clean and good value. The Menton Etap is also in a great location which makes it hard to beat.
